Re: Cancer Charity Ride - An idea to raise cash!!
Hi Will. I can help out on the May 25/26 dates, part of my 4off. I'm in West Yorkshire. Squires cafe is my second home, I'm sure we can do a batton hand over there and get the charity bucket out.
Pm me if you want to talk it through.
Cheer Dave.

Wouldn't it be better to make it a journey around the coast of the uk?
It would mean we'd have to put in more effort, but hey, it's for charity mate!
The more effort needed, the bigger the numbers needed. The bigger the number of people involved, the more the word spreads. The more the word spreads, the more attention the event would get. The more attention the event gets, the more publicity the event gets. The more publicity the event gets, the more people want to get involved...

Yes, a full coast ride would be much better and raise more cash etc. But Who's going to do it? From doing this type of thing out in Oz I learnt a few lessons..... Let's start with something manageable, raise a few quid and build on it year by year. There are so many ways to improve the whole thing, but as they say "From acorns, grow Oak trees"

I'm happy to link the Ace to the Chilterns, assuming you two aren't planning on coming camping (and if not, why not?). Mind you the Boil Rally is being held in Cumbria the same weekend 25-27th April, so it'd get the spanner far further up the country if it was passed on to someone heading to both.
Presuming everyone who's signed up to the Boil has subscribed to the sign-up thread a post on that would probably reveal at least one southerner heading north. From Cumbria the leap into Scotland should be easier I would have thought.

I will keep your offer of getting it to the Chilterns as back up. Hopefully though someone (or someones) will take it from the Ace and run it around during the week then get it to the Chilterns. Any takers?
I did think about the Boil and boosting the baton north, but then we need to get it back south again. By keeping to south, then doing Wales/Ireland then Scotland then south again it keeps it more like a circuit - Well sort of anyway!

I've had a great day!!!
Got off my arse and went a saw a printing company.
I can get 200 b/w stickers for £80. They can also do T shirt, caps, Hi Vis waistcoats, pens, key rings etc etc
I've got a mate doing up a logo for me with a 'rufty tufty' ABR on it which should look pretty cool. But best of all I called a firm I do some work for and the boss is going to spot us £500 to pay for it all!!!!!! There really is nothing else in it for them but check them out anyway and pass on the good word http://www.ignite-london.com/
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
In return, all he wants is photos of riders doing silly things at landmark spots during the ride! How about that for a deal!!!
So, what should I get made? I reckon T shirts always go down well and are reasonable small to pack and bring on rides to flog. What would you pay for one of them? A Tenner?
Also I got a website pretty much up and running which look pretty good and will raise the profile of the event if nothing else.
There is a 'Just Giving' page attached to it, but don't wait for the website to donate, you can go straight there now

So, not bad for a Wednesday's work. Woop woop!!!
Cheers

Nice bit of work there Will.
Regarding the merchandise, how much of the cost it will go to the Charity or is this more about raising the profile and getting people to donate directly?
Whilst no one should be out-of-pocket for doing something charitable, it may only work if a reasonable portion (say 25%+ of the cost of the t-shirt) goes to the charity. When Rocket and Co on the Tiger forum arranged for the Tiger Calendar to be produced £5.00 of the total price (£9.95) went to the charity.

Re: Cancer Charity Ride - An idea to raise cash!!
From my own experience with "Curry-aid" merchandise can seem like a great idea on the surface but in reality it can be a pain. firstly you have to buy a reasonable quantity of T shirts, mugs whatever to ensure a profit margin, and then you have to be sure to sell most of it. An example is my book, I have ordered 250 copies to start with and need to sell 80 to cover the initial cost.retryrider wrote:Nice bit of work there Will.

Sorry to put a negative into a great idea. Just my experience.
