Ecky Thump Trail Ride

Post by beddowsm »

Back from a great weekend at the Ecky Thump Rally. Weather was cold, but with the trails planned for Saturday we soon warmed up. Great group of people and lots of fun was had.

Me, 950 ADV
Sparkton, 950 ADV
Elefantman, 750 Elefant
Nibby, 690 ladies bike
Yamart, 690 girls bike
Timcat, 690 he she bike (more of a gents bike with half a rally kit on)
Felco, 660 Tenere
Coasty, 650 Pegaso
Minted, 600 TTR

Roads to the start of the trails took us through a few nice fords. Water was deep and flowing...

And then onto some fast flowing trails across the moors.

After seeing how flooded the rivers were with the first few ford crossings I didnt think the big one we had planned would be possible, but we went to look. And like any good ride leader I sent Felco through first.

Next went Minted.

All was going well until the strong current at the far side got him. Take a close look at this next photo. Minted decided that he fancied a swim.

At least Minted got further than Timcat before swimming.

And onto the techincal section that is really more suited to Enduro bikes. Definately a challenge with what we were riding. Took us 2.5 hours to cover approx 3.5 miles of difficult trails plus 1.5 miles easy trail. Lots of mud, bogs and ruts. Great fun.

The final trail of the day was Rudland Rigg. A fantastic 9 mile trail across the moors. But the way we went meant having to go up the steps. Not an easy ascent.

Felco made it look easy.

But the fun started when it was Coasty's turn. This has to be the best photo Ive ever taken. Id like to say Coasty planned to do this, landed and screamed to the top.

And after picking himself up back down he went for a second attempt.

And then continued towards the top.

I can't get the YouTube links to work? :)
