Looking to sell the Tiger for something lighter with a bit more off road bias.
Step forward a 2011 KTM 690 Enduro with a few extra bits and bobs to protect the bike when i drop it.
So smaller bike, cheeper, less performance on the road, bike tweaked to make it more robust and the cheepest quote is another £250 on top of my current premium for 8 months!!! Which at the moment for my (piss poor) fully comp is £275!!!!
Well bend me over and nail me to the table!!!!!!!
I'm 40 years old, not had a clam in 20 years of riding bikes and driving cars and 6 points ever in my driving history.
What is the world comming to?
As a joke i asked if strapping a bag to the rear seat is a modification........
Rant over
I can't figure insurance companies out.....
Re: I can't figure insurance companies out.....
i would say its simply because its a bike that statistically gets pinched more than a tiger, nippers have more accidents on them, and maybe parts are more expensive.

i hope you did not pay it, you see insurance companies or coming down hard on bikers today because they see us as an easy target, their are only a few companies that insure bikes these days and so they will chance their arm on getting more money out of us, in hope that we will say noting and just pay and be done with it.. just tell them to go and fu*k themselves and the horse the rode on, thats what i did and they never tried it again.

Re: I can't figure insurance companies out.....
I'm insured through the IAM and when my quote came through to re-new for this year I was shocked to see that it had gone up £120 from last year's premium of £195. Everything was the same and no changes to me, the bike, or my licence. So, I went online to compare some meerkats etc and found it at £202, rang my insurance company up with the details I had been quoted and invited them to match it or lose it - three days later they called me back to say that they would match it and they also through in UK breakdown cover.
Amazing what you can achieve with a bit of time.

I've played Hastings direct off against other quotes for a few years and they've always matched my lowest quote, up until this year, so I buggered off to MCE and got it (TPO) for £103, as opposed to Hastings' £187 for the exact same cover.

My quote from Carole Nash was exactly the same as last years !
So I did nothing & let them ring me -
When they did, I asked them if they could do better - told them that if I went on their web site & entered all my details in I bet it would come out cheaper - but if I did, I'd know they were taking the piss, so I'd leave them on principal.
He asked me if I'd hang on for a few minutes - I agreed - & he duly came back with a new quote over £40 cheaper - which I accepted
Was well pleased, as I really didn't want to input details in for 11 bikes ! :pinch:

Re: I can't figure insurance companies out.....
Had an interesting experience with Carole Nash last year come renewal time. Renewal was a smidge under £300. Felt a bit salty so did an online quote with Carole Nash and got a figure of £178...with the same underwriter for the same cover?! Called them up and apparently the online quote was treated as 'new business' so qualifed for soem discounts! unsurprisingly I took the cheaper policy out, no quibbles!
Personally I have no qualms about using any tactics I need to to get a sensible premium car or bike, particulalry as they seemed happy to rip me off to the tune of £122. I will be repeating this exercise again this year.....

Adding massively to a premium when you change your bike (or car) part way through a years policy is a common tactic for many companies. They do it in the hope you will simply pay up in order to avoid any hassle.Don't just pay
Get quotes for a new policy and if necessary cancel your current policy and get a refund.
Re: I can't figure insurance companies out.....
Cancel your policy & get a refund? Which planet do you ride on & is it far.
2 years ago I phoned my insurer (Express Insurance) as had moved address & was going touring so wanted everything up to date. Less than 5 miles down the road but as far as they were concerned into a 'high risk' war zone. 3 months left on my policy & required to stump up another £135 to retain the policy (was originally £160 for the year)
I looked around online (inc a quote from Express) & found a year for £165, their online quote was over £300 cheaper than talking to a rep
I phoned to cancel & get a refund, oh no refund & that will be £50 admin please. In the end I lost 9 months no claims & had 2 policies running concurrently.
It is a strange fact, the more my no claims increases & the cheaper the value of my bike, the higher the premium becomes. Funny old world
