No restrictions...Corfu

Post by jojo »

Just spent the last week riding around Corfu on KLE 250cc with no leathers, hair blowing in the wind and getting a good tan at the same time.
Being an island that the moped/scooter and motorbike is the main form of transport it was amazing to see how the CAR respected the biker... :woohoo:
Endless empty roads with the minimal of traffic you could not help but think at times you had the entire road all to yourself.
Wonderful hairpin bends in the north to put it mildly and then dirt track roads for off road riding (although these are suppose to be B Roads).
Females be warn that "women do not ride motorbikes except in and around Corfu town so be ready to have a few horns beep at you"...all I can say to that is "Girl power." :cheer:

Me and the missus were there at the beginning of September. For the first time opted for thee comfort of a scoot seat rather than enduro. (2-up=cramped and sweaty) 150cc Jianzing took us everywhere, including Perithia Old Town by the dirt road.

We were there in August, know what you mean about the fantastic roads.

I couldn't help keep going back to the bike hire place and hiring something different each time. We started off with a Dragstar, next was a KLE500, and then a big 300cc scooter thing.

We were in the North too, In Arakavi, and hired the bikes from Roda. We went all over including Corfu Town for an evening (the ride back was interesting in the dark)!
Great mountain roads and tracks that go for miles, again no helmet and shorts??? what is it with holiday mode? I would NEVER ride like that in England!!

Did you know, it is law to wear a helmet in Greece, but nobody seems to care, so nobody wears one??

Thanks Sparkton...

Was sat at the airport and the locals were riding past the local police and no-one seem to take much notice. Cant but help feel the mutual respect that everyone has for each other.
Unfortunately we don't seem to have that on our roads!!! :(

Great memories. Toured round Corfu twice in the 80's on hired trail motorcycles. Shorts T shirt diving mask & snorkel,no helmet. covered all of the island and came across some great beaches at the end of dirt tracks
