Who else has a Landy then?

Post by AustinW »

I have had 3 landys 2 died due to rusty chassises (OneTen and S1 disco) and one got stolen (90). Now on a LWB Shogun. Gotta say the Shogun is the better car, but nowhere near as cool or sexy as a Defender.

I've had 3, a series 3 88", 2.5td 110 Hi-cap and a TD5 disco.

Miss the Series the most wish I'd never let it go.

I also have a freelander after having a couple of Discoveries too. My Landrover habit is probably worse than my Motorbike.

I've an 88" Series 2A...a part of the family for more than 20 years. Doesn't get used much now, the Transalp's a lot handier, and better on petrol, but I still can't beat the LR for taking rubbish to the tip!

I'm on my Third Landy. All have been Ex Military. First was a Series 3 88" Lightweight. On a Q plate and 24 volts. The wiring loom caught fire while I was doing the business with a girl on top of the Battery cover in between the seats. Had to rewire it myself as no electrician would touch it. Sold it after quite a few years service.

Then I got a Series 3 109". She was a good bus but drank petrol like an oil tanker. I laid her up in a garage and she stood for about 10 years. When I sold it I put some redex in the tank, poored petrol straight down the throttle body and attached some jump leads. After 20 seconds she fired up and ran sweet as a nut.

My current one is a RAF 110 Defender FFR. She served in the first Gulf War at Dhahran Airbase in Saudi Arabia. I bought it back in 1998. She is in excellent condition, rust free chassis, bulkhead and footwells. She only does about 300 miles a year now as I hardly use it. Thinking of selling it as its costing a lot of money just to sit doing nothing, but I'm attached to it.
