M&P do a splitter and riveter for about £45. Seems good value, but like you, some advice from someone who has one would be really helpful.

Unless I'm missing something, this one seems to be a splitter only & not a Riveter.

A dremel, £20 but if you've not got one you'll wonder how you lived without out, and a ball peen hammer, £5 if you don't already own one.

In the comfort of your workshop a grinder and a hammer is the way to go. I have some small chain breakers for doing single row camchains in situ but always use a grinder for drive chains.

On the road is a different matter and I've often wondered whether the little featherweight motion pro jobbie is man enough - this one http://www.adventure-spec.com/default/t ... ml?cat=104

As above the motion pro tool is a splitter only and won't rivet.

I have found the DRC chain tool to be good enough and with dismantle to fit in a tool kit.

I've just bought this from these guys: http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Chain_Cut ... 24-23.html

Not got it yet so can't vouch for quality, but it seemed ok in a video I watched on You Tube and its the same sort of tool DID sell.

I totally rate the motion pro tool. I won't leave home without it.
