Exploring the Faroe Islands by Motorcycle

Post by Alun »

I'm heading up to the Faroe Islands at the end of the month (April) where I've a booked a day quad biking to some of the remoter parts of the main Island - there are 18 Islands that make up the Faroe's.

However, I may have just won the jackpot. Apparently there is a Harley Davison dealer on the Faroe. Apart from being what must be the most remote HOG dealer in the world there's a good chance he'll let me have a bike for a day to go touring....Yes, yes, yes.

I'll post more details when I have news and if anyone popping through this site has any experience of biking on the Faroe Islands I'd be grateful for any info.

It's lucky I like talking to myself...anyway, looks like it's on with the loan of a bike and I've just found out that there is 600kms of tarmac on the 18 Faroe Islands and that 17 of them are connected by bridge/tunnel/ferry.

The scenery looks stunning with huge cliffs dropping into the North Atlantic and for the most part it's a barren wilderness. Can't wait. Oh, and it rains a lot.

They say it's a sign of madness, though I'm all too happy to do it...talk to myself.

Anyway, I've been up to the Faroe Islands and travelled the lonely roads to the northernmost tip of land, the highest pass, the deepest tunel, the longest bridge and all the bars in between. I'll be posting up a full trip report soon but if anyone has any questions about motorcycle touring on 18 windblown rocks in the middle of the north Atlantic just ask.
