I went on a trip to Normandy in 2009, stopped at a campsite at Ouistreham near Caen.

Its ideal for Pegasus Bridge, Arromanches, airborne cemetery at Ranville, Merville Battery and the Caen/Pompey Ferry.

Mullberry Harbours, Arromanches.

St Mere Eglise is a short ride away as well, where the US paratrooper got stuck on the side of the church under his parachute.

There is a camping municipal in the town, just a short walk away from the church, very nice to stay at.

Hope this helps

4 of us are going over 30/5 to 3/6,
£82 each for 4 bikes and a cabin with LDlines to le havre,
100euros each for 3 nights in 2xtwins here http://www.normandybeach.co.uk/
adrian sounds a good bloke and the place is ideal for us as one of us cant walk much.
i'll let you know how we get on. its not transylvania or the sahara but adventure is where you find it, we're going with 2 tour virgins, one of which doesnt eat foreign, hates cheese and garlic, and gets ringbolted on one sniff of alcohol. its gonna be hilarious

The Camping Municipal in Arromanches is cheap , But it's on a slope and if it rains the lower pitches to the left and near the tennis courts and RV overnite park get waterloged/flooded. The town D-Day museum has webcams 24hr online - arromanches.com -
The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is not far away, camping municipal in Bayeux is near edge of town with a McDonalds nearby.

Hubby had a fab long weekend there in 2009 for the D-Day celebrations - met LOTS of bikers of all nationalities. Great atmosphere & moving ceremonies.
Will try to attach some pics just as a taster for anyone going along in June.
(The first 2 pics are at Pegasus Bridge and the next 3 pics are at Gold beach)

Ive crossed the channel between 6 & 20 times a year since 2004 and have done every route combination/ferry company on my way from Hull to Southern (Basse) Normandy and last year finally decided that Portsmouth/Caen is the best crossing overall!

That is taking in Fuel, tolls, food, wear & tear, lack of sleep, comfort, avoiding M25/Dartford crossing etc etc

Brittany Ferries are a little more in cost but all the above add up, plus if you can arrange to go out on the afternoon crossing and come back on the am crossing you save a stack (although if your hoteling it this isnt worth it) or during the summer season try and get on a fast ferry(if your a pie eater like me you,ll save the difference in food as the crossings are about half the time)

Another good way to do the beaches is enter at Cherbourg or Caen and leave by the other!

As was posted before head inland a little and see/ride Suisse Normand and I Can highly recommend Domfront(+castle) Bagnoles de L`orne(spa town) Falaise(+castle) Mayenne and then any combination of roads between!!!

and If anyone is heading near Bagnoles pm me to see if We`re in France as we keep a huge stock of Gold Blend and English Bacon and real Andrex!

If anyone wants a discount code for Brittany Ferries just PM me and I`ll forward it (5-15% depending on times)

Also next year theres a new fast ferry from Portland-Cherbourg
Too many Cagiva Elefants, Gran Canyons and Ducatis!
Azzalin SP and various others.
