Oh, and I used WD40 as lube. I was told to steer clear of Fairy liquid.
It seemed to work well. Recommended by an old hand in a motocross shop in Ringwood...
Heide,Heide now (K60s)
Re: Heide,Heide now (K60s)
Well, job done
New K60 on the back.
That's my first time changing a tyre on anything other than my mountain bike. The BeadBrakR is a good yoke, was perfect for getting the Scorpion off, no trouble at all with getting the bead broken on the first attempt.
Getting the Heidi on was another matter altogether but eventually managed it with a good amount of Gloop and the tyre irons that came with the BeadBrakR.
Took about an hour and a half but I didn't break anything, didn't hurt myself, and I now know I can be self sufficient when it comes to tyres and punctures.
Some lessons learned:
Lube is your friend.
The little wooden protector blocks that come with the BeadBrakR aren't too durable. Cut up and old leather belt to use as rim protectors. Easy to use, flexible and durable.
Be patient.
Maybe don't choose a K60 150/70 18 for your first ever DIY fit.

K60 Scout after fitting

K60 Slick yesterday...

Not so good in heavy mud but we knew that eh?
No tyre was NOT clogged in this stuff and we had the lot - TKC80, D908RR, MT21, Mefo Super Explorer..... etc.

Re: Heide,Heide now (K60s)
ACP..looks like you had fun....which trail was that on?
And that pic of the tyre on your rear bike looks to me like the 140 profile or have they changed the 150 profile? as the 130/140/150 are all very different with the 150 having the center band level from new and more wavy patern..
just like to keep upto date
see you in a couple of weeks ...at least with soft mud compared to solid frozen mud the falls are less painfull

Re: Heide,Heide now (K60s)
Knobbly, I have a suspicion that you might have been running yours at too high a psi. When I put mine on I put them at the bike manufacturers recommded psi. It was terrifying  dropping them to 25 and 30 yielded massive improvement and the rear in particular I reckon you could run at zero psi for a hundred miles and not have a problem
Re: Heide,Heide now (K60s)
Agree too, rear down to 30 instead of 36 now, front will be about 27 instead of 32 when I fit it.
Finally back on a GS
