2000 waypoints on the montana and 500 for the zumo i belive.

yeah it dont play music but dose do alot more that the zummo , after all its a sat nav/ gps not a music player .

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 660, can take a few thousand waypoints...

I picked up a brochure on the Montana the other day, according to which it has:

4" sunlight readable touchscreen
Dual screen orientation (landscape or portrait)
16 hours on lithium-ion battery pack or can take AA batteries for an additional 22 hours

it is dead easy to use too....even for a satnav numpty like me.

Lane assist???

Thats the reason I updated from tjhe Zumo 550 to the 660. It's well useful, especially abroad

The lane assist is in the mapping software, so if the unit supports that software it should do lane assist.

I've had my Montana 600 for a while now does "zumo style" turn by turn navigation or you can do it on OS 1:50,00.

It doesn't have Lane Assist (if that's the one where you get a picture of the junction with the lane you need highlighted) as standard but if you upgrade to the city maps I believe it comes with Lane assist.

It does however tell you which lane to be in at multiple junctions with a symbol in the corner of the screen.

Only pain is that it doesn't come with any form of bracket.

Garmin "rugged mount" is £50 a throw and unless you have a flat surface to screw it to, an appropriate Ram Mount is another £40.

I have a Montana 600. It's excellent as it bridges the difference between an outdoors GPS and a motorist GPS so can be used for both. It's waterproof and so far the only issue I have had with the device is that rough roads will vibrate the battery loose in its compartment. Simple to bodge with a fold of paper or something to wedge the battery in place.

When you get one experiment with the settings to get the profiles and dashboards that suit you and give you the info you need. There's hundreds of configurable options.

Lane assist and other features like that depend on what's built into mapping software you install. If you get the Montana bundle with the Ordnance Survey (OS) style Map (Garmin Discoverer) then no lane assist ( that i have found anyway) but depending on the dashboard selected you can get small icons giving guidance on lanes at some major motorway junctions. This is mostly because underlying the OS map is some standard Garmin mapping / navigation software. .

This also means two other things : the OS maps are just zoomable images. You can over zoom and it goes pixelated or under zoom and all detail is lost. As you zoom out though It will eventually change to a 1:250,000 map image and later to a 1:1,000,000 image.

The other thing is that navigation is not against the OS map image but the underlying Garmin software, ie it doesn't navigate down green lanes, tracks or other non- road items marked on OS maps.

You can buy other maps and navigation software, lots of it for free and then experiment with which maps are active to see what is displayed and how it affects navigation You may get lane assist and off road navigation that way but know how to do a global reset as running two or more maps can cause conflicts resulting in the device freezing.

I have a powered rugged mount fitted to a Ram arm/ ball - which cost about £15 all in IIRC.

Finally get a Kriega Kube Pocket to store the Montana in. They could have been made for each other.

Good luck with it, they are baffling to start with.
