A good tip when following a track line....zoom out and zoom in at junctions as not all tracks have waypooints at every turn...especially the road book type....overlay the track on the map to check it follows the roads and trails..

Some good vids on youtube on garmin basecamp...

Thanks for the tips.

I have noticed that. I've now spent so much time staring at the route on Base camp I might have it memorised now anyway...

I think I've got Base camp nailed now. It's just the gps I need to test to make sure it does what I think it will. Tomorrow I will walk a small route a few times to see how it behaves...
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

I can recomend:-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-GB-Europe- ... Swe-FU-rfF
as excelent 1:25,000 TOPO maps Europe for 55pounds.
They work well on the Montana & download onto a computer for a permanent workmap with basecamp.
They also print very nicely:-

Martin, the guy producing these also gives friendly prompt technical support.

Yes they may be available free elsewhere on the net but this PACKAGE takes all the stress out of downloading & using them.

Routable........to be absolutely sure I'd need a definitive of routable.
Certainly if I enter an address it overlays a route to it.
GPX Tracks(HISS 2012) are overlayed in the photo.
As Russ knows I'm no expert but it's the very best i've seen so far & I like the way it loads permanently on a computer without a garmin device needing to be conected.
