Issue 17 is the first issue of the mag I have purchased so I have no other issues to compare it to but I like it. It's a welcome change to mags I have purchased in the past with is just the same old rubbish, "which is the fastest 1000cc superbike" "what are the best one piece leathers for £2000" "which tyres are best on the track test (even though most people only do road riding)" blah blah blah

If I could grab the editor's chair for a while, this is what I would add:

A buyers' guide to a different secondhand bike each edition. We don't all have the cash to splash on a new bike, and there's some who make it a matter of principle never to buy new, so a comprehensive guide to a bike, with tips on what to look out for when buying, what can go wrong, how much common repairs and maintenance will cost and when they'll need doing. Add in some decent pictures and a couple of short interviews with owners and a guide to prices and you've filled a few pages. The ABR rallies are an excellent opportunity to talk to owners, get photographs and line up a test ride. Of course it then opens up opportunities to approach spares and accessories suppliers for that specific bike with advertising opportunities. I used to buy Classic & Sportscar and they do something similar, I'm sure ABR's R&D department could afford a copy.

Secondly a series of articles entitled something like "So you want to be an adventure biker". I'm sure some people pick up and hopefully buy ABR as an aspirational magazine, maybe they ride a different kind of bike, maybe they rode as a youngster, maybe they've never ridden. Take someone from CBT, through their test, onto off-road school and then out into the wild blue yonder via equipment choosing, budget for beginners through the ever increasing spend we all have as we get more into it, and bike choices (it'll link in nicely with the buyers' guides).

Hmm who do you guys know on L-plates?

Thanks again for the feedback. Happy to hear more. On the subject of CCM, press rides begin this coming week. We're booked in for one, so if all goes to plan expect a detailed ride report next issue.

Seriously, I used to buy every issue of Ride. Then after that fateful chat in the bar at Applecross, I haven't missed an issue of ABR. Get Ride now and then, when there is an adventure bike feature. Although, as only one shop 15 miles from me stocks ABR I am about to take out a subscription. And being an eld dinosaur, I still like mine in print.

I also buy Land Rover Owner every month, have done for years. Yup, Disco owner as well.

But when you look at ABR and LRO they are both festooned with ads. Some rubbish, some ok and some that I actually pay attention to. If it means the continued success of both magazines, so be it. I can live with them.

ABR is pretty unique, as are the website and forum it has spawned. The rallies are brilliant too. So many like minds (although even on here, as others have said, we vary greatly in interests and habits on our bikes), common interests, common confusion. The hints and tips, the banter, it all adds up to a rather unique ABR experience. One I would hate to lose, just to minimise advertising.

Its a double edged sword for Alun and the others, reduce ads and they would need to drastically increase circulation. And after all it is a rather specialised sector we exist in guys and girls. There may seem a lot of us on the forum, but in the grand scheme of things, we remain a rather select and small breed.

Bottom line, we live with the ads so that we can read the reviews, ride reports, owners bike reports, kit reviews and ultimately so we can all meet up in Ullapool and share a few drinks as we regale one another with how well our tents stood up to the gentle breeze and slight rain of the night before....

But it is also good to see the editorial team are happy to take on board
suggestions from the readership. Dave does put forward some decent suggestions.

IMHO
Great post mate, sums it up well.

Haha. Yeah I think it's me mate. Even got myself some new welding gloves in anticipation. Should be interesting, especially with it being touted as a long distance adventure bike. Suitable for a trip like mine; we'll see.
