Quite difficult to answer that.
I don't know of any dedicated Green Lane websites, though some of the TRF groups have sites I believe mostly on Facebook
so if you are into joining clubs and don't mind following the leader (figuratively and literally) then look at joining the TRF .

If you just want to find out what Lanes are in your area, let people here know where you are and I am sure you'll get some help
Its a trick............get an Axe

Greetings,

The answer to your question is almost akin to 'what's the best bike', depends where you live, what you ride, etc, in short - personal preferences.

As Asgard has said you might be best letting us know the general location (not specific) where you live or want to ride. You could join a local group or simply post up your intended ride/question on here and ask folk to contact you possibly by PM (private message). The TRF and GLASS have general websites on which they list their Groups, you then make contact with those that interest you. Some have their own Facebook groups, some are very good at getting back to enquirers and regrettably some don't seem to bother judging by some of the Posts on here and the TRF website.

The main organisations are the;

TRF for motorcycle specific https://trail.trf.org.uk

GLASS for all vehicles, predominately 4X4 but has recently found favour with many motorcycle riders, (despite what the Directors of the TRF might tell you - politics !!!!!!!!) https://www.glass-uk.org

Trail Riders Association, tends to be concentrated towards Lancashire and West Yorkshire https://trailriders.org

The ACU and AMCA are more competition oriented. Local to the Peak District is PDVUG, which is a collective of 4X4, motorcycle clubs and individuals concentrating on the Peak District plus immediate surrounding areas. There is another Peak District centred group known as The Association of Peak Trail Riders. The important factor though is that both GLASS and the TRF are very involved Nationally in trying to defend our rights of way issues so joining either pays into the collective financial pot to challenge unjust discrimination against motorised users.

I think that GLASS is worth joining especially for their excellent mapping system called Trailwise2, but it is only available to their members. The system allows you to look up lanes and see what others have advised as to up to date legality, conditions, etc.

Bear in mind that the legality of a route is flexible either by its designated category as highway, restricted byway, footpath, etc, and Traffic Regulation Orders, more commonly could be called closures or temporary restrictions. Unfortunately the Rights of Way issues are very complex and you need to speak with local folk who keep uptodate with changes. The local Highway Authorities generally have their own internet mapping portals.

This website has become very popular because it has a moderation system which allows sensible debate and criticism. You will find many folk prepared to share information and help answer questions so this might be the 'answer' for you for now! Enough from me, get back to us if you require more information or have a specific question.

Hi,

I use this site to plan a route. Is pretty up to date for the most part:
https://www.bywaymap.com/

This is a good one for a bit of info about the lanes:
http://www.qwerf.com/greenlaning/?county=all

I've found that using the first one and an app i downloaded on the app store called "Footpath" i can plan a route pretty well. Footpath is really good as it works like Google maps, so you draw a route (deconflicting with the Byway map site) and then use the app to guide you like a gps. Its really good and easy to use.
