Green laning in the north west.... Finding the right places to do it.

Reports, meets and other stuff on how to trash the bike with a grin on your chops.

Hi Eric,

Got to say that’s a pretty cool way to present them pics. Looks like a great day was had by all concerned.
I’d love to take you up on that offer to join you.

Cheers

Salters fell is in the process of being graded so should be an easy ride for you in a week or two. Plenty of suitable lanes in the lakes & north wales. Good luck. Tony.

Have a look at the TET, some parts are ideal for bike bikes. Bit out of your area, but the section from Nantwich, Cheshire down to Llangolen is very beginner friendly. Just one short lane to avoid. Definately don't go alone in case this happens........

A few members of the classic bike club I'm chairman of decided to try greenlaning so we tried Salter Fell which I was advised wasn't bad apart from the first bit, so we went to try it & I rode my rather unsuitable CCM SR 4.0 which made the first bit bloody hard but not for them as they were on 250 CRFs & in my defence they were good trials riders which helped :D after the first bit I enjoyed the ride over the rest of the fell over to Wray, so thinking I'd get a more suitable bike the CCM was replaced by a Serow 250 but I made the mistake of buying a bike in to good a condition to throw at the scenery, they moved on to KTMs then abruptly gave up when the novelty wore off!! My point is you could try Salter Fell but miss out the first bit by coming from the Wray end & turning back before the rocky downhill? But certainly not on your own?
Cue those that think Salter Fell is easy saying I'm a wimp :)
You're a wimp. Ive been up that on a van van for god's sake.

If I had any routes up that way I'd share them with you.
When asking for routes it seems most people would rather share their bank account details than send a gpx.

It wouldn’t matter to me anyway, I’m old school. I have to stop every five hundred yards to check my map. 😋

Well summed up on the TRF they just ignored my messages
In defence of the TRF, as a result of this thread I was contacted by Phil, chair of the Manchester TRF who offered to guide me for a day. Had a brilliant time....see below.
