Two Moors Way, Dartmoor

Post by Mawsley »

I'm going down to Devon to see my Mum - and am thinking of going free camping on the Two Moors Way.

From the map, it looks like a white road from Bittaford into the moor. Can anyone tell me if this is accessible/permissible?

Thanks :)

Ok so the white dashed route is 'other road, drive or track'. I'm pretty sure it won't have vehicular rights. I'd love to be wrong because that would open up hundreds of miles of rights of ways.

Hopefully someone with more local knowledge will reply.

There's no public MPV access rights on the track as far as I'm aware but you're free to walk and camp on the common land in the area. I know the area well and my partner rides horses there on account of not being allowed to ride motorcycles.

This DNP leaflet makes it clear.

What are you wanting to achieve? There are some green lanes on the moors that I've camped next to but you are supposed to be away from roads if camping and as these green lanes are roads it does mean moving away from your bike.

The moors are a busy place this time of the year and you'll find people camping everywhere once away from the roads.

Hitting the middle of the moor quickly on a green lane, spending the night with some standing stones while getting pissed.

That one's out so I'm targeting Wiltshire instead. :cheer:
