It's cut the Green Road access from Coverdale to Nidderdale, by the stroke of a pen

surely that depends on why a TRO has been put on it? I'm sure some are justified, but 18 months sounds a long time...

Not justified, our TRF group has offered to repair it from club funds

There is one spot in the middle that is bad, just needs stoning and maybe a partial closure to 4WD vehicles

I helped repair Deadmans back in 99 and the work that was carried out then I thought would last for many many years.

Sadly it started to degrade in only a few years.I believe the 4x4's seem to be the main problem on the steep section as they start wheel spinning after the hairpin bends. Sadly I have also recently seen motorcycles getting off the road and riding up the hill to the left of the lane ( trying to avoid the damaged section where the high step now is ) this caused corrosion to the hill side area that had been repaired .Large boulders had been placed to stop people leaving the track.

Maybe one solution would be for this route to be made one way only . Going down it would cause less damage than going up it . who knows

It had been closed again only a few years ago for repairs where they also re routed it at the hill in question but again it was inadequate and again 4x4's started to damage it, so about a year or so ago a voluntary one way system was encouraged going downhill(south), but sadly the damage had been started and I don't think everyone followed the request partly because the first sign you came across heading uphill(north) was when you crossed the reservoir and by then nobody would want to turn back because there's no alternative trail.a picture that is repeated across the country due to the shockingly small percentage of vehicular rights of way in the countryside.

What a shame. As has been pointed out it stops a nice long green lane. The track South of Scar House is a fantastic rocky climb (heading up!).

There was a VTRO on Deadmans Hill on it last time as was there. Downhill only. That bit in the middle was a mess though.

But as JB has said why close when there is offer of repair!
