I'm gutted I cant do this one :( One bike in bits, one prepped for sale and a promise to pick up a new KTM for a mate prevents me, enjoy.
You've got to go :(
Who else will I help over the log just to watch him disappear onto the horizon in a Cyril Depres-esque fashion, leaving me behind? :P
BTW whaddya buying? Are you going to do the Hellas next year?
I did check you were up and running in my defense. Anyway last time you followed me I turned round to see you chewing at the rear tyre of the XTR with a big grin and the words" I just saw 126kph" on gravel! As to the next bike probably another orange one , 450 opens up more racing opportunities but a 690 will get ridden more. Need to sell some bikes tho.

:P
Now if I had had a 450
Would love a 690 but it would have to be an only bike

I must say it looks ace but I need to figure out how to get safe and inexpensive experience before I go for this sort of thing.

When I learnt to snowboard at 20 a young body and a gung ho attitude was fine. These days and with a new toy some self control is needed, unfortunatley I have a tendency to get lost in the moment and my balls to skill ratio definately leans on the dangerous side...

Maybe next year...
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

This will be my first rally but I have completed a couple of training weekends at the Sweet Lamb with Burt and Molly ( http://www.bigbikerallychallenge.co.uk/ ). I cannot recommend the training enough! After an intensive weekend you'll be as ready as you can be to take the plunge.
There is something about life and dress rehearsal that I need to remember ...

Actually the Sprint IS a great place to get safe (and fairly inexpensive) practice, the spaces are big and wide open and there's plenty of space for others to pass oin much of the track.

Also whilst some of the longer running Rallies have big fields made up of enduro riders/bikes who will use you for grip just as soon as look at you  given the numbers entered, it is fairly certain the field will be made up of us "rally specialists" and a fair few beginners, so you will be welcome.

Although I had never raced until October 2011, I have been involved in motor cycle sport of various types over the years, helping out friends who did race in disciplines as diverse as Motocross, Trials, Side Car Cross, Beach Racing, Track Racing, Endurance Racing and Drag Racing but without any doubt, Rally Racing is the friendliest scene I have ever come across.

Regarding camping, it is a nice big flat area at Sweet Lamb but it is remote, about a mile up a gravel track from the A44 (and guaranteed no phone signal regardless of network). There is no catering until the burger van turns opens on Sunday so if you want food/beer on Saturday night you either bring your own or drive 20 minutes to Llanidloes.

On the camping front, it is very hard, so either bring BIG tent pegs and a big hammer or a tent that does need to be pegged down. Or as many of us do, a Van, Camper or Caravan. There are a few grassy patches around the edge of the site but not much of it is flat!

Also it can be very windy as you are in a valley that tends to funnel the wind, a few gazebos were trashed at the Hafren last year.

And bring your own water, do not be tempted to take it from the stream as the water is full of lead as this was traditionally a lead mining area. :woohoo:

This is what the paddock looks like:

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it :)

Mark Roberts who posts on here is giving his 200EXC another airing so expect whinging about gearing and running out of steam on the flat out sections.
