Audible plug warning doofer

If you know how to do something, share it with other members. i.e How to fix a puncture...How to ship a bike to Alaska etc. The post with the most 'Thank You' votes in a month wins an ABR Hoodie.

Audible plug warning doofer

Post by daveuprite »

Anyone out there know of something that can help me?

We have a powerful submersible pump that I installed in our well and which has served us reliably for over 10 years.

But being a forgetful nobhead, I keep forgetting to turn it off when we don't need it (we only use it 15 minutes per day to fill up the horses' water and wash things down with etc.).

I've got it plugged into an extension lead, via a simple 4-gang multi-socket thing. There is an on/off light switch on this 4-gang which I use to turn the pump on and off. If i's dark I notice the light is on, but in daylight I walk past the bloody thing to go in the house after doing the horses and I keep forgetting to turn it off.

If only it made a noise (a bleep, or some kind of sound) then it would remind me to turn it off. If you don't turn it off it wastes electricity and eventually trips the circuit. I suppose I could plug a cheap radio into one of the other sockets, tuned to a channel, and that would work, but I would have thought there was a simple alarm thingy available that would do the trick.

I've looked all over ebay and google trying to find something. I just need something that plugs in to the 4-gang (or between the pump plug and the socket) that makes a noise when the 4-gang is on and doesn't when it's off. Surely there's something cheap and easy that does this?

Anyone know what I mean?

Yeah, I use timers for other things about the place, and I did think of that, but can you get one with an alarm on it?

How about a count-down timer ? I use them for a number of things - you just press a button on it to give up to 2hrs, then it turns off.

I have this one, but there are others, with different timings...

If it turns itself off, why do you need an alarm?

Fair point Asgard. Because I don't always use the pump for the same amount of time. If I'm washing the bike down or whatever I need it on for longer. I just need a reminder when I walk past the plug, which I always do when I'm finished with it.

I'll take a look at that link Nigel. Thanks everyone. Suggestions much appreciated.

Perhaps this is what I really need:
