Afternoon All
I mentioned in an earlier post that me and the other half are moving to Spain later this year.
There are some nice trails near where we live so I'm keen to get a trail bike for when we're there (something like a Honda CRF 250) but am not sure whether to buy here in the UK and take with me (but then have all the hassle and cost of re-registering in Spain) or just buy when I get to Spain (though have heard that buying in Spain, especially second hand, is very expensive) ?
Any thoughts/advice much appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

From experience, buy Spanish. Vehicles are expensive here, but that's because they don't deteriorate like they do in the UK. My 1990 XT600 has just a couple of rusty scratches. You will also find some bikes are also priced similarly with UK ones given the exchange rate. I would only bring a British bike if it had sentimental value, or was difficult to find here (like a CCM) and you had to have it.
Current bike is a Yamaha T7

we have decided to bring our bikes out here just means that we have to return to the UK for MOT and the servicing of my wife bike (CCM). Are you taking up residence here, what area are you moving to, we are around Sorbas - Bedar.

Good luck with the move hope it all goes smoothly, you are further up the coast than us but if you ever get down towards the desert where the spaghetti westerns and Lawrence of Arabia was made give us a call.

Ha ha, still pontificating I see, wise fellow! (thumbs)
If I remember you're going to the Costa Blaca somewhere, in which case you can limit your search on Millanuncios - the most popular second hand site - to the Valencia Region, i.e. Valencia, Castellon and Alicante provinces.
Here's the most promising - most are the 'R' versions that look like they've been seriously hammered - I take your point about the good condition Alan but in a trails bike I'd look for one that has been used as a commuter bike like men were - but whether you think €2,950 (£2,495 as I write this) for a 2005 model is a good deal ... and @ just 2,507 kms it hasn't been used as a commuter I guess ...
I asked Ccm a few years ago if they had there bikes TA'd here and they said "Yes" but that may only have been the military bikes with Suzuki engines. But I have seen an Adventure with Andorra plates here in the Pyrenees, so maybe a) there's a concession and b) the TA might be done for this model too?
BTW, despite being up in the Frozen North it's lovely and warm and sunny here too - not right now of course as it's after dark  - but good timing for the Carnaval, all these blokes in spangled tights ...

I guess you'll eat up any price differential quite soon with all that tooing and froing! And you can't get an MoT test done in Gibraltar, sadly ...biker wrote:we have decided to bring our bikes out here just means that we have to return to the UK for MOT and the servicing of my wife bike (CCM). Re: Trail bike in Spain - buy and take from UK or buy in Spain ?
I believe I am right in saying that a British registered bike will need to be registered to Spanish after 6 months. In doing that the bike is supposed to be reverted back to as it came out of the factory (back to standard) for it to be submitted . That may be a bit pricey if yerve chucked all the original bits away. Thats what I have been told of course

From my experience, the itv guys don't know what's standard or not. I also have better luck with the mobile itv stations rather than the fixed locations. My Harley had loads of aftermarket bits on it like lights, air shocks, etc. They didn't bat an eyelid. I was missing a reflector on the back and they still passed me and told me to put one on asap.
