Big tub of rocksalt emptied into a bowl...now ive got light and power I need to keep it dry....so hopefully this will help

Dehumidifier is a must

My double garage is block and brick, double skin with a DPM and it's bone dry in winter

I take out about 4-5 gallons of water out each week with dehumidifier though

Ok so i put my new bike in the garage saturday afternoon, went in this morning and the bike is wet.
We moved into the property in September and the last owner had the garage built around 11 years ago, he used it for basic joinery so had a decent amount of tools in there and never mentioned any problems...........

Just a thought - (it may be an egg sucking thought!).
Did you ride your new bike on salty wet roads ? It will put a layer of hydroscopic (but barely visible) salt on the bike and it will almost never dry out.
Like salted roads take ages or never to dry out.

Check if the floor has a DPM. if not get some floor resin and seal it.

Will resin stick to a damp floor or brickwork ?

I have a DPC that is 3 courses above the garage floor and it is constantly damp (obviously).

Never thought about that Ray, i did have the bike out for around 60 miles, it only got a quick rinse and dry before putting it away. If weather is ok tomorrow i will give it a good soapy wash and proper dry before it goes back in garage. Should have some ACF50 in next few days, so will treat it to a good coat.

My bikes are parked in wooden barn along with 2 cars so no chance of reducing the moisture. My solution was to line the bikes up side by side - make a sort of tent of sheets draped over the handlebars stretching across to the next bike and place light bulbs either side of each bike, these were on a timer and switched on when required - then dependent upon conditions, left on overnight for example or 2 hours on 2 off etc - whatever seemed to work.
Not that expensive to run or buy.

I have the same problem, put my car away wet on Friday, it's still wet today. I don't keep any fabrics in my garage anymore, they go mouldy.

It's a proper job garage too, double skin brick, tiled roof, up and over doors.

Winters are too mild and the air stays too damp.

I was bothered by condensation in my lock up in wet n cold weather the floor was soaking with it and my bikes were covered in it my solution was to get a few large cardboard boxes and open them out on the floor .. hey presto no more condensation on bikes and makes it a bit warmer... or it feels like it (thumbs)

I have 4" polystyrene in the roof and a 2" air gap,
door is insulated roller,
floor has damp proof membrane, 25 mm mdf, and lino
not a lot of damp getting in
