The best 'six-pack' money can't buy. L to R as you look, Indie, Alice, Danny, Bob, Jess & Max. All rescue greyhounds, Alice/Danny/Bob neglect cases.

Re: Post us your Dogging Pics
Awesome thread and only just noted it.
We have just become dog owners (I say we, me and the Mrs) After having a heart attack last year and using getting a dog as an excuse to get some exercise, we saw Ralph on Facebook on Phoenix Dog Rescue page. Immediately as we saw a picture of him we (Well I) wanted him.
Turned out he is from Romania (He has taught me how to pick pockets now, great he is  ) and when he was bought over here his new owner who had a dog already went for ralph and got him on his nose, so that was the end of that relationship and he is now a full time resident with us at the Ogden houshold. Although we did wonder why because as soon as we got him he went down hill and ended up in Vets hospital with a bill of £650.00, thankfully we had insurance which paid out.
He really is the dogs nuts (although these have been removed :woohoo: ) and if you made a list of what you wanted in a dog you would get Ralph.
Well being the knob i am I have produced a FB page for Ralph and if you want to follow him heres the link https://m.facebook.com/Ralphy-Walfy-Dog ... 120910817/

Re: Post us your Dogging Pics
He's lovely - and good on you both for stepping in when he most needed it.Will be following his FB life now!
We live in Germany part-year and there are a lot of rescue dogs from Romania there. As bad as it can be in the UK, the issues for dogs in other countries can be much worse.
Always good to see folk rescuing needy dogs that have been exploited, neglected and abused. There are plenty of dog shelters with lots of deserving dogs, without lining breeders pockets imo.

Nice one Oggy, rescuing a dog is the best thing we've ever done - best of luck! (thumbs) (thumbs) (thumbs)BigOg wrote:Awesome thread and only just noted it ... @ MoselBikes; you're amazing mate! You might be pleased to learn that rescuing Greyhounds has become huge here in Spain! (thumbs)

Re: Post us your Dogging Pics
That's a nice thing to say Simon, thank you.I made the 'mistake' 10 years ago of volunteering at our greyhound rescue kennels and have been stuck with half-a-dozen or so ever since! Still go when I'm in the UK, to help with kenneling and walks. It's bitter-sweet of course, heart-warming and heart-rending in equal measure. The greyhound racing industry is STILL self-regulating and all smoke and mirrors. I hate it. There are countless welfare issues and an estimated 8,000+ or so bred into it every year and the same number coming out as they finish their 'career', with only 3-4,000 finding homes ....... go figure what happens to the rest. It's a disgrace and the government turns a blind eye because of the betting revenue. Makes my blood boil. The worst argument I hear is 'but they really love racing and aren't happy if they're not'. Bollocks.
The plight of the Spanish Galgo is very sad, so I'm glad that the rescuing side is strengthening.

Re: Post us your Dogging Pics
Thanks matey. There's a huge way to go yet but you just have to be positive. The law here doesn't protect animals as they are considered as 'property' but there are laws against cruelty and finally people are getting prison sentences for some of the terrible atrocities - plus the social sanction of neighbour's opinions. But there's still a long way to go ...Mosel Bikes wrote:The plight of the Spanish Galgo is very sad, so I'm glad that the rescuing side is strengthening.
If it wasn't so cold up here in the Pyrenees I'd be tempted to rescue a galgo, but on the other hand, could you resist a husky like this ... (thumbs)
