Natalie Merchant's original is arguably better but Joan's cover is also great

Re: Best cover versions?
Apart form Frank Sinatra's version this is the most 'famous' cover that I found: It's odd that the Canadian is so uptight about gender that she felt the need to change it for her version! No so in Brazil, which IMHO this version is much better ... ... and thank heaven she changes to English at the end as despite speaking Catalan and Spanish fairly fuently - and being able to 'spot' several Latin American accents in the latter - Portuguese leave be gibbering in uncomprehantion! (thumbs) Strange when a girl speak it's sexy but when a man speaks it sound like the an Russian Mafia Oligarch speaking Spanish! Regs Simon

Re: Best cover versions?
SLFs version way better than the original by Bob Marley in my opinion. Although I never saw Bob live and SLF always were one of the best live bands out there.

I've seen it promoted on various music related forums and thought it wasn't my thing, so never listened to it....sven wrote:Better than the original (thumbs)
