Re: Stockpiling
Well, the Government has scared itself enough to be opening those lorry parks in Kent...

Re: Stockpiling
Too many people joking about here. This is some serious shit and I'm real worried about the future.
I've been making plans for even further down the line, for when we are no longer the "UK"
Tesco's had an offer on Scott's porridge oats family packs this week and I was able to secure 1500 boxes, I can't actually get into my flat now but at least the worry of breakfast is over !

Re: Stockpiling
Felixstowe, which is the UK's main deep-water port for containerised goods coming in from outside the EU, is now locked solid.
Incoming shipping is being diverted to Rotterdam, with boxes bound for the UK being diverted. UK boxes are then loaded onto small container ships or Ro-Ro ferries that can access Port of London etc.
This indicates a major problem post-Brexit...incoming goods from the rest of the world will still have to pass through the EU.
But the Govt's ignorance on all this is well-known....Raaaaab had 'no idea Dover was an important port'.

i use to work for an american company in the uk,our head office was next door to a harley dealership and i use to get all the service and performance parts shipped in the same crate as my factory spares in brown wrappers and the bonus was the pound was strong against the dollardaveuprite wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:01 am Jak - not sure if this is a workable proposition or not. But I've noticed over the years, living in France but occasionally posting stuff to friends in the UK, that privately posted parcels tend not to be custom-checked in the same way as commercial goods are. I might be quite wrong about that, and stand ready to be corrected by anyone with some decent customs/import/export knowledge. Maybe everything will be checked more thoroughly after December. But if it is the case, then I'm happy for you to use my french address to have EU products you buy posted here (staying within the EU) and then I re-post them in plain packing as a private parcel to your UK address. I really don't know if that would be cost effective, and I don't want to end up as a busy depot (!), but it could get a few products to you that would otherwise fall foul of the lack of a trade deal. This offer is not open to brexiters obviously, because they caused the problem...

Re: Stockpiling
I've not heard of this but I have worked in a pea processing plant that required field to frozen in say 2h. They were then boxed in 1T pallets but i've no idea what happened to them after that, I'd be surprised if they went to Europe just for packaging though. For instance some food that is grown in the UK, like peas, is then sent to EU countries to be processed and packed before returning to the UK.

Re: Stockpiling
I counted 4,500 containers (above deck alone) on one ship, of the 100 ships that would normally unload weekly at Felixstowe . That's a lot of Ro-Ro's crossing one of the worlds already busiest shipping channels, and there are already too many Nissans laying on the sea bed FFS !Richard Simpson Mark II wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 2:37 pm Felixstowe, which is the UK's main deep-water port for containerised goods coming in from outside the EU, is now locked solid.

Strategically placed these will make excellent thermal insulation, saving money on your heating bills in the long run, will until you run out that is....soho wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 9:15 pm Too many people joking about here. This is some serious shit and I'm real worried about the future.
