DVLA license photo renewal

Post by gebrauchtwagen83 »

just wondering if anyone had any experience of how long it takes the DVLA to get your license back to you with a photo renewal application. you cant ring them anymore it seems, maze after maze of computer messages and even computer replies to emails.

Not long mate, i had to do mine earlier this year. Did it online and used the option of using the photo off my passport as it was issued less than 5 years ago.

Think i did it on the friday and it came on the monday or tuesday.

My other half did his recently and it took about 6 days, so fairly quick.
He did his by getting the post office to take his pic then they sent it off.

My son's licence came back in about 10 days but that was an LGV licence.

Hope you took a photocopy of it ?
A mate of mine sent his in for a change of address 5 years after his bike test....
When he got it back they hadn't added the bike pass bit so he had to retake his test !:(
Apprantly DVLA don't make mistakes

They don't accept photocopies either - there are examples of truckers who have had their licences regularly examined by the police and Customs & Excise and even those audit trails were ignored. Even if they would have gone to prison without the appropriate licence, that didn't matter and the DVLA forced them to redo their HGV test.

Forms say 3 weeks, if not there is then a contact phone number!!!

Waiting for mine at the mo, but delayed as DVLA already had licence to ad my bike entitlement :)

Got mine within 5 days, that was taking it to the post office and letting them send it off etc.
I think it was worth the extra money for that service.

I would agree take a photo copy of both parts before you send it off.
Some stories about categories being taken off and then being told by the DVLA proof you have the entitlement

I've read of cases where they won't accept (home produced) photo copies of your licence as proof of entitlement.

The only fail safe way IMO is to request a copy of your file/licence under the Freedom Of Information Act, only after getting it you then send your licence away.

If it comes back with incorrect details on it you can present your copy of your file/licence which was supplied by them.
Use their evidence against them.

Their may be a charge for a copy of the file/licence but it won't be as dear as re-taking your test.

Or you can just wing it and hope for the best, TBH I haven't heard of it happening much lately.
