RIP Bill Withers

Post by boboneleg »

I don't usually do this sort of thing but I feel this guy deserves this. Bill Withers was a guy who never 'made it' until he was 32 and eight years later turned his back on the music industry to live his life without all the shit that comes with being a star.

If you've got a spare 30 mins watch this this recording and to see a genius (imo) at work. RIP Bill 8-)

Here here Bob, a brilliant artist, and one of my favourite records of all time, sad loss.

Thanks Bob, yes a great artist, RIP .

"Ain't No Sunshine" is an absolutely beautiful song, covered by many of course but there's a great version by José Feliciano, not sure if it's on Youtube, I have a very crackly recording from the Engelbert Humperdink show ( yes that was actually a 'thing' !! )

Bill Withers & Manu Dibango, two greats from the 70's who both passed this week. Use me & Soul Makossa two songs that guided me towards a thirty year career in music. I give thanks for them both.

I just edited this bit, I'm getting too emotional in my old age. 8-)

By the way Bob - Issac Hayes doing Ain't no sunshine. 17 minutes long got me fired from a club in Vienna in1976, another one of my anecdotal stories . I remember it clearly :D

Thanks for posting this Bob.
My teenage daughters loved watching these cool cats doing their thing and now appreciate who wrote the original songs that have been covered by others.

‘Use Me’ is a such a groovy tune...
