This is the regular covid-spread graphic that we get to see as a daily reckoner of the problem in France. But when you combine all the days since early Spring and turn it into a timelapse, the whole issue becomes so much more apparent. You can really see the effect of the first lockdown, then the relaxation, and the rapid growth of the second wave.

Just don't bother. A hell of a lot of people detest their families and dread having to spend a false-love, totally contrived christmas day with people they never spend time with the rest of the year if they can help it. Covid is the perfect excuse to give it a swerve this time.

On the basis of taking a couple of long shots on flights and ferries for next year, does anyone know the vaccination strategies for mainland European Countries?

We (Scotland) should pretty much (if things go to plan) all be vaccinated by July.

I'm looking at a couple of weeks in either Denmark / Sweden or Germany / France / Switzerland late July / early August, then a rescheduled flight from this year to Marseilles in September.

Any info gratefully received.

Personally I'd be surprised if everyone in Scotland will be done by July, given that that's 10 million appointments to book and 10 million vaccinations to give (in Scotland). It's a massive logistical task. It may be though that enough people will have been vaccinated by then to relax restrictions enough to travel in the way you describe. In England it's an even more herculean task of course, with over 100 million appointments and 100 million vaccinations to arrange and deliver.

Shocking
We buy things we don't need

With money we don't have

To impress people we don't even like

Unfortunately the majority of the country voted for it. Ten years of cuts and policies that favour the rich have led to a society where the divide between rich and poor is vast and widening everyday. We have seen the largest increase in house prices in six years. We have a prime minister who moans that he struggles to live on his salary but we have ten of thousands living on statutory sick pay of £94 a week and JSA of £75 a week. Schools have seen a vast increase in families claiming free school meals and it takes a footballer to tell the government that they need to carry this on in the school holidays. Presumably the Tories thought that families could send their kids up chimneys and down the pits in the holidays to bring a bit of extra cash in. We see retailers collapse with the loss of thousands of jobs whilst their owners swan round the world in £100m pound yachts. Whilst there have always been and will always be, those who are the poorest in any society, the depth and breadth of poverty in this country is staggering and it is charities and individuals who are filling the gaps. Increasing the tax on billionaires by 1% and closing off shore tax would go a long way to sorting out many of this countries problems but as a country we vote against those things time and time again. The long term consequences of the poverty in this country will cost the country a lot more.

To be fair Jak most people will vote for what (they are told) is likely to improve their lives and most will not have experience or knowledge about the situation that is depicted in the news video.
We know people who work or volunteer for local foodbanks plus others who work for Fareshare and this is not a new situation brought about by Covid, sadly it has been going on for years.
Let's hope that Covid continues to highlight such injustice although I suspect the same media will soon be showing us people who abuse the system to allow us to cast judgement.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Offshore income has had to be declared to HMRC for some time now. For individuals it's no longer a way of legally reducing the tax they pay in the UK.
