That is what is happening here in Norway. About 10% of all registered vehicles are electric, with about 50% of all new vehicles sold
are electric. This is due to the way electric vehicles are (not) taxed compared to ICE vehicles. But of course now the various parties
are talking about starting to tax electric vehicles over a certain price (Tesla) because the amount of revenue being lost is huge.
Most vehicles in Norway (ICE) are about 200%+ of what they cost in the UK, so imagine how attractive electric vehicles are, that
don't incur vehicle tax or VAT.

Talking to a car designer a few weeks ago he stated that an electric car has to do about 50k miles before it gets to be carbon neutral.

Cost of recharging at points not at your home address will be a lot higher than charging at home,

Infrastructure to lay charging points will be a massive undertaking and who will pay for this, and so will generating the extra electricity to charge all these nice eco cars.

What will happen to all the people who live in blocks of flats and terrace housing ? where and how will they charge their cars

Has anyone taken into account the damage that will be done to the world digging up all the precious metals and then transporting the materials all around the world by ship so components can be made, yes I know that happens now but we are meant to be talking about eco friendly transport

hydrogen anyone ? but I understand that takes a massive amount of energy to produce

There was something being shared on fb the other day ..... imagine a accident on a motorway or heavy snow. Tailback is adding hours to journey or perhaps the motorway is shut. This happens quite often in the uk. Now imagine the majority are electric vehicles and hundreds if not thousands run out of oomph?! Do we have to carry emergency petrol generators just like we carry a pump/charge pack now? This is a serious question. Maybe they will develop a disposable chemical chargepak that you can crack open and it produces enough power to partially charge batteries. I think hybrid vehicles are the only real world solution. A small 2 or 3 cylinder backup engine for emergencies.

probably a small electric power pack (or reserve personal supply) would be compulsory for such emergencies.
(or perhaps emergency elec stations or charge points/lines)
.. it is interesting how our little petrol brains have to try to envisage new scenarios and new answers for this new scene.

I don't understand why the manufacturers can't come up with a standard, replaceable battery pack, which can be used on all cars of a certain size and other ones for vans etc.

Say you are running low on juice; go to a service station and you either connect up, charge, and wait, or for a fee have your battery pack replaced with a fresh one and pretty much drive straight off. This would keep filling stations in business too and if designed correctly it could be a 2 min job, just like replacing a battery on a cordless tool.

We have standard almost everything now, so why not two or three standard, replaceable, batteries?
