Broad band, wifi speeds to laptops?

Post by Tramp »

Okay just got virgin broadband... Android phone is 115mbs download... Up stairs its 95 so still fast but laptop is 35mbs and 10mbs upstairs...

Ive guessed its the laptop ls wifi model as its windows 10 and new ish.... Now short of running a ethernet able upstairs can anyone in the knowledge suggest a external usb3 wifi external device to up download speeds...

Its windows protection is off and no auto downloads, wifes laptop is same too...

Do i need a high gain wifi adaptor? If so which works with win10...

Cheers

You don’t need an ethernet cable, use a powerline adapter. Networks the house via your 13amp electric sockets. I use it to link my router downstairs to my IMac upstairs and my smart tv. Only use wifi for phones and my ipad
Have found Solwise plugs the most reliable.

I had them, but have since just run some Cat 6 STP up the side of the house & into the office - connecting straight to the router via cable gives much better & more reliable speeds (for me anyway, powerline depends on the wiring in your house).

I've got a WiFi extender for those rare days I want to sit in the garden & work....

If you don't get the speed you hoped for around your house, Virgin might send you (FOC I think) some wifi extenders. They only work with the superhub 3.
