I traditionally always thought of the main country conflict as between bikers and farmers ..
lately, over recent years, I have spoken to a few .. and they all seem very friendly
but then so am I

when I am a cyclist on a trail (once the weather breaks
) I cycle carefully and respectfully bell any walkers ahead .. but they always react badly .. as if I am harassing them .. but I am not!
so I see this .. cyclists/walkers as the main area of conflict .. on what is usually designated a cycle path (that walkers can use
)
ebikes were always going to make this even worse .. as they are quieter and faster .. all the better to sneak up behind a nice quiet walker and frighten the livin shitt outta them

It puts the pressure nicely onto them to respond pleasantly. Universal sickly sweetness can wear them down.
Horse trials are almost 100% good natured places. Ok, we are doing a job for them, but the general friendliness is good.
Fence judges and other helpers chat and ask about the bikes and what we do.
You get the odd snotty rider but one even got thrown out of an event last year for unfairly complaining about one of our riders ‘chasing’ them.

I think it's fairly clear what's going to happen. The NPA have already got rid of powered vehicles, then...
2020 All electric assisted vehicles (eMTBS etc) will be banned - causing too much noise and damage.
2022 All cycles will be banned - too dangerous for other users and causing damage
2028 Horses will be banned - also too dangerous for other users and causing damage
2030 Groups greater than 4 people banned - too noisy and not sticking to paths and causing too much damage
April 2032 Everybody banned (except staff) to allow the countryside to recover.
It's taken 100 years but they've got rid of the plebs in the end.

This section of the forum seems like the obvious place to ask, so here goes...
We're trying to keep my elderly father-in-law, who suffers with worsening respiratory problems, mobile on 2 wheels.for as long as possible. He's an ex-motorbiker, now nearly an ex-mountainbiker (limited to pootling about on flat paths only due to his breathing) so I want to do my best to sort him out with an e-bike.
Any recommendations please for a second hand or budget priced new e-bike? Budget... not much really, anything out their half decent for about £500? Or is that unrealistic?

It depends what your after. You can pick up an old e bike for 2k that’s good or track the sales, if your that limited by budget look at retro fitting a bafang motor on to a normal bike, you’ll still have to buy a battery though or make your own

If your employer has signed up for the 'Ride To Work' scheme, you could buy it and give it to him, the discounts might make a new bike affordable and the monthly payments are taken out of your wages. Tredz, Halfords or one of the independant retailers should be able to advise- I bought mine from Damien Harries Cycles.
