Re: not bike related but a sobering thought
It's a strange thing, but the loudest voices complaining about the 'truck driver shortage' come from the worst kind of 'dumb the job down' employers.
There's one well-known haulier in the east of England who has had to circulate a memo (written in many languages, and with supporting pictures for the hard of thinking) to remind its drivers not to drive off with the diesel filler nozzle still in the tank! That's the level they have reduced the job to. Muppets employing other muppets. No one with any self-respect is going to sty in a company like that.
On the other hand, I also talk to hauliers who say they have a waiting list of drivers, and the only time anyone leaves is because they've retired or failed a medical.

Re: not bike related but a sobering thought
I have a couple of jobs.
One involves putting myself into burning buildings in order to pull out others and/or driving a fire appliance at high speed through traffic. They can call on me any time of the day or night when I'm on call (which is most of the time I'm not at my other job) and I will be there in 4 minutes or less, ready to roll. The potential outcome of wrong decisions may very well be loss of life (mine or others).
The other job involves driving a desk and negotiating deals with suppliers. The worst consequence of any error I make is that the company will be a bit less profitable until I get the chance to even it out again.
One pays Β£10/hr, the other an order of magnitude more. Guess which is which!
The shame of it is that the job I do for the love of it and sense of doing something worthwhile for society would not be financially viable for me on its own.

If you've had a manual before...it takes a bit of willpower to let the automated box do its thing.Tink wrote: βWed Apr 10, 2019 12:27 pmIt's automatic ... Don't know what to make of it yet?Richard Simpson Mark II wrote: βWed Apr 10, 2019 11:22 am Nice one...450 engine as well.

You should be able to switch to 'off-road' mode, which will stop it chopping up and down the box when you are on soft surfaces.

Yeah it's good in off road setting, but bit snatchy on the road, I'll get used to itRichard Simpson Mark II wrote: βWed Apr 10, 2019 1:20 pmIf you've had a manual before...it takes a bit of willpower to let the automated box do its thing.Tink wrote: βWed Apr 10, 2019 12:27 pmIt's automatic ... Has it got an accelerator pedal or just the normal flat out throttle switch that most tippers have
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Strangely...a lighter foot seems to get faster, smoother changes in 'normal' mode.
