Happy new year everyone.
This year I've decided to give my daughter an education in classic albums, every time I see her we have an hours drive to get her home so we have time for 25 of the greatest long players of all time. So what do you recommend?
We started yesterday Dark Side of the Moon which after a bit of thought she reviewed as 'weird'.
Extra credit to any that have female singers my music collection is a bit lacking in that area.
Cheers
Bren

Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti
Pink Floyd's Meddle
The Doors Greatest Hits
Anything by ZZ Top before Eliminator
Totally agree with Mike on Fleetwood Mac's Rumours

Hi, what a great idea. I think you will get a lot more than 25 choices and I guess it depends on your age and musical preference. I would say the Clash ‘London Calling’, Nirvana ‘Nevermind’ although I prefer their unplugged album, Motörhead ‘No Sleep Til Hammersmith’, the Levellers ‘Levelling the Land’, the Sex Pistols ‘Never Mind the Bollox’, Ian Dury ‘ New Boots and Panties’, Neil Young ‘Harvest’, Bruce Springsteen ‘Born in The USA’
For female artists Blondie ‘Parralel Lines’ anything by Nina Simone but particularly ‘I put a Spell on You’ and anything by Joan Baez but I suppose the essential is ‘Diamonds and Rust’.
My personal favourite album of all time is New Model Army ‘Thunder and Consolation’, but as they remain something of a cult band, I guess it doesn’t qualify as a classic.
Cheers Jak

Re: Classic Album education.
Some good choices there...and for once I agree with Mike54.
I'd say the best Springsteen album as a whole piece is 'Born to Run' because in its entirety it tells a story of a day and a night. It also meets a vital 'Classic Album' criteria in that there is a wide range of musical styles, instruments etc making it something of a 'record collection on a single disc.'
I'd also suggest from a more recent era, Parklife by Blur...an other music collection on a single disc. Plus, especially for a female listener, you want some less 'lad' stuff: Joan Armatrading: the eponymous 1976 album, maybe?

Just a thought for some more female leads...
The Velvet Underground and Nico - Andy Warhol
Anything by Jefferson Airplane
More recent stuff would be Cranberries and Evanescence... some really strong female vocals there.
