Neil Peart Adventure Book

Post by SHarper »

Eyup Forummers. Yesterday was dull, grey, cold and miserable, (a bit like me) and being an early riser, there was nothing on the TV except telly marketing and the news, so I watched a documentary on Netflix about the Canadian rock band ‘Rush’. Anyhoo, it turns out that the drummer, Neil Peart, after a particularly bad episode or two in his life (the loss of his daughter and then his wife) decided to just bugger off on the motorbike his wife had bought him, a GS 1100.
He kept a journal on his travels around Canada, Alaska, North and South America and 55.000 miles later, with some of his demons laid to rest, he published a book about it. The book is called “Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road” and is available to read online for nowt (it appears the first 146 pages are for nowt). Anyway it’s passed a bit of time for me and I thought one or two others might like it...

Thanks for that. I knew he had a bike but didn't know about the book. Been on his website and he's written a few books. Top drummer by the way.

Thanks for the recommendation 8-) .
Having been a Rush fan since the late 70's I bought the book just before Christmas and finally finished it today during an unplanned day off work.
At 460 pages long it is not a quick read and being of a generally positive disposition myself I found his extended periods of darkness to be hard work but then thankfully I have not been through the trials he has and hopefully never will.
All in all it's a great book and having been lucky enough to visit some the places in his journey the quality of his writing was excellent at bringing the memories back.
Thanks again for the recommendation 8-) .
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

All of his biking exploration books are enjoyable. If you're a Rush fan you'll probably enjoy Rush: Chemistry by Jon Collins.
