Insurance rant ( again)

Post by PaulinBont »

It's that time of year again- the renewal 'merry go round' time.

I'm with Bennett's so I phone CN asking for a quote:

" How much are Bennetts quoting?"

"I'm not telling you, just give me your best price"

"OK, but do you want to proceed today if it's a good price?"

"No thank you, I'll compare the quotes first"

"But our quote can change from day to day"

"That's OK, just give me a price"

"To be honest, it's a pointless exercise unless we've got something to compare it against....blah blah blah......you need to check that Bennett's are offering like for like cover"

"Just give me a quote!"

Ridiculously high quote follows!!!!!

" Thank you....bye and have a good day"

"Please feel free to come back to us when your insurance is due and we'll see what we can do to have your business"

FFS!

But you can always take comfort from the fact that all insurance sales people have a special place reserved for them on Dante's Circle of Hell, where they will be prodded by red-hot pokers for eternity.

You can feel better about that phone call now...

Just the same really with car and home insurance and all equally frustrating to deal with. Their advertising makes me laugh, trying to make out they offer so much to their biker friends for so little.

Extortionate rates for mid term changes etc, don’t get me started! Blood pressure rising now so I’m off fishing!

Try LV...we got cheap home insurance with them after they got our car business, and they do bikes too.

I saved a lot by giving CN my car and bike business together the following year.

CN upped my premium from about £500 to over £1200, no changes in my circumstances. Looked at MCN compare and when LV came in around £200 I went with them even though they we a bit more expensive than some of the unknown (to me) brokers / insurance companies in the MCN results,

I really don't know why people bother with the big boys. CN, Bennets, Devitt DA , Norwich punyone etc. They are ( to paraphrase one of Steve Bell's cartoon characters ) all absolute Ouanquers. They all play the punters off against one another and the punters all move round from one to another, no real competition. You are much better off with a specialist broker. Just my 1.8p

I'm not prejudiced. I'll use the big boys or the others. Whoever offers me the best price for the package I want gets my business. That goes for house, bikes, car and holiday insurance.

I've tried a few brokers and sometimes they've beaten the best online deal.

Bottom line is I want my money in my pocket (or my wifes lol) and not theirs.

Try Lynbrook, especially if you have an older bike and want multibike policies.

They charged me less than a tenner last week to add an enduro bike to my existing policy for the remaining 6 months.

I have just gone with Bikesure, they were half the price Hastings Direct were asking for a renewal.

My CCM policy is with Bemoto, I have been pleasantly surprised with them so far (2nd year). They answer the phone without an unbearable 30 mins on hold & my renewal this year was cheaper without having to create a song & dance.

They're certainly worth a phone call. My commuter is with Bennetts, only due to cost, they always seem to offer the best value on comparison. You have to be very careful of the voluntary excess these days, some are ridiculous
