Insurance and Legal Protection

Post by Thedktor » Mon Aug 20, 2018 6:37 am

What's the deal with legal Protection on your insurance, worth it or not?

From first hand experience its not quite what I thought - my wife was side-swiped on a roundabout, absolutely 100% not her fault and agreed by both insurance companies.

However, having had her car repaired she had to pay her excess and two months on is still waiting for the "Legal Protection" people to claim it back from the other party.. Now, this company is nothing to do with the Insurance company and don't seem to be making any effort to do much, I am guessing because there is nothing else being claimed ie personal injury and the like.

From what I gather the Insurance company don't even pay the legal company anything despite charging you £30+ pounds, and the legal company just make money on commission when something beyond just an excess is claimed for.

Any views??

I can not comment on your situation regarding your wife's accident but my own experience of legal protection has been a positive one .
After my brother was killed in a motorcycle road incident it was through legal protection that a legal defense team was provided to fight his case against the car driver, that included solicitors & a barrister that stud up in court and secured a guilty verdict on the driver .
This was all provided at no extra costs to our families apart from the initial part of the insurance premium about £10.
So yes I think it's worth it & I all way have it .

Legal Protection cover is there to help you recover uninsured losses from a third party, so things like your policy excess, personal injury, hire car etc

If you haven't received payment from two months ago I'd be getting on to them and asking whats happening as it should have been settled once everything else is settled, problem is sometimes third party insurers are really slow in dealing with these things and they push them to the back of the pile of work which is why your legal expenses people should be chasing them

Legal Expenses also tends to be a totally separate policy and nothing to do with your actual insurance company.

I'd submit an invoice to the legal insurance company for the total of losses as agreed.
