UK to miss out on cheaper motorcycles
"The Japan-Europe Free Trade Agreement (JEFTA), signed on 17 July by European Commission and Japanese Government representatives, will mean an end to the EU common external customs tariff of 6% on motorcycles imported from Japan — once it is ratified and fully implemented over the next five years.
And apart from cheaper Japanese bikes for European customers, JEFTA also includes provision for harmonisation of technical safety (lights, brakes, etc) and emissions standards. So European motorcycle manufacturers exporting to Japan will no longer have to tweak their specifications to comply with currently differing regulations, and vice versa.
Unfortunately, JEFTA reciprocity will not apply to the UK, because we will have left the EU long before it comes into effect. Arriving at any separate British free-trade deal with Japan is a distant prospect. JEFTA took more than a decade of hard bargaining."
Oh well, never mind...we can all enjoy our nice blue passports while queuing at the border.

Yes...you'd be amazed how little margin there is on the ticket price of a new bike, never mind the transaction price. I know, I used to sell them.
Tariffs make a difference. For example H-D, already hit by the Trump Tariff on imported metals, is now facing EU tariffs on its export models in retaliation.

if we weren't shackled to the EU for the last 45 years we would have had our own trade agreement in place, took the EU 10years so a non corrupt efficient sober organisation could achieved the same in 10 months.

...but sadly you won't find that in the UK, where the Brexiters can't agree amongst themselves on the deal they'd like from the EU...
and that's just dealing with one organisation.

Re: UK to miss out on cheaper motorcycles
With more and more Japanese brands having manufacturing done in Thailand a lot of motorbikes won't come under the agreement as the EU still has no agreement with Thailand. You may get a little discount on the higher end stuff still built in Japan but with the recent prices they'll still be expensive. Meanwhile Japan will get access to cheaper dairy products that it's been deseperate for benefiting German and French exports.

Blame Brexit
We buy things we don't need
With money we don't have
To impress people we don't even like

blame the fecking Tories. Brexit is their thing from top to bottom, and they can't even come up with a plan for how it will happen.
Wouldn't trust them to put my bins out and get them the right way up.
