I wouldn't dream of riding without ear protection.
Ones like these seem to work best for me

Flents Soft Foam Ear Plugs 33Nrr Orange With Case

It is so annoying when you set off and one works loose!

I also use these headphones:

Sennheiser CX 686G Ear-Canal Sports Headphones for Android

Either with audio of off they work great. I modified them to be about 2mm thinner as they pushed in a bit hard.
