Now ! where did that bolt go ?

Post by LargeWayRound »

So whilst most of you guys have been enjoying yourself at the midlands rally.

I have been in the workshop ..

Where is that haynes book .. !

Why is that pipe loose (been like that for a while by the looks of it.....

Image
Should be like this ..

Anyone who knows Transalps will know that this is a major pain to strip the bike.

Valve clearances

Carb Setting

Spot ON !!

Bike back running now , but still naked .. getting fork oil changed , rear tyre needs replaced ..

First time for me doing a major service , all went well so far ..

Special thanks for SteveT , who gave me the help on the phone talking me through the fork oil change and the inspiration to do the job in the first place. :)

Saving me about £400 and making sure that the job was done right (local dealers are idiots)..

Well done, £400 saved, but priceless satisfaction. ;)

Cheers Guys

So , update ....

Forks have now new oil , old gungy stuff came out .. Hung up for couple of hours.

Fairing on , crash bars refitted , just the brakes to bleed / change fluid and were done ..

Engine Oil Change
Oil Filter
New Spark plugs
New Air Filter
Coolant Change
Valve Clearances
Fork Oil
All bearings Checked.
Brake Pads Checked
Carb Balance
Plus all the rest of the check items on the 24,000mile service list .

Definitely a learning experience but well worth it ..

Costs so far

Air Filter £22
Oil Filter £5
Engine Oil £12
4 spark plugs £6
Fork Oil 2 litres £24
Coolant £12
Brake fluid £5

Total £86

Time so far 6 hrs 20 minutes (but not really counting)

Should be able to do it in 5 hours next time .

Great effort old pal, I also spent the weekend servicing the bike.
Oil, filters, plug etc etc. It's running very sweet now :)

Coincidence! I did my Transalp's tappets, plugs etc today too. What an awkward engine to work on..... or have I been spoilt over the years servicing my old Land Rover where everything is easy to get at?
