Shooting furry animals.

Post by SteveW »

I don't like blood sports but I make an exception for rats.
I'd never shoot a fox, a bunny, a bird, or a squirrel. We get rats at the bottom of our garden (a neighbour breeds "exotic" chickens) and we get rats in about an 18 month cycle, we've been rat-free, but now it's "weapons free" and I'm on top of the leader board, three infront of my eldest son.
My favourite sniper position, upstairs bathroom.

We've got a pond behind the green gate and the buggers hang about down there.

Looks like quite a scope. What is your rifle?

Good hunting :)
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

We get quite a few mice and squirrels in the garden and some rabbits but when we got rats around the bird tables they had to go.

I know I have become a Boring Old Fart, Steve .. but perhaps look at the legal side, firearms, and consider council exterminator 8-)

I don't worry about the mice and squirrels but rats get a lump of 177.
I just sit at the garden table until the beggars go to the bird feeders, it's usually this time of year when the fields are wet that brings them out.

Also have a minor rat problem live next to a field and a run down house have had the council rat catcher out a few times but as the problem is not massive and he cant really do anything about the field and house, he was quite happy for me to carry on with dispatching them with my rifle.
No need to delete this post you are perfectly well with in your rights to kill vermin humanly and so long as you have a licence for your firearm but then if you have an air rifle you don't need a licence

Yes it's just an air rifle.
In answer to Brenhden's question.....It's a bolt action Walther Rotex RM8 .22 with a Panamax X9 scope.
It's very accurate at this range (25/30 metres) and really gives rats the good news.
It''s pre-charged from a diving bottle and gives about 80 shots per charge, it's got an 8 round magazine.
.....I'm well over 50 yards from any road......and it's open farmland to the rear.
