We buy things we don't need
With money we don't have
To impress people we don't even like

Observations-
1) warmer in the 60's, hence no gloves or neck wear.
2) helmets appear to be a cause of hair loss.
3) motorcycling is no longer a young man's game. (Or woman's, so as not to offend)

Nothing has changed we twist a throttle and smile.

I suppose the question is '50 years on is it any better?' Whilst the bikes are undoubtedly more reliable and the riding gear more comfortable and waterproof the increasing congestion and complications of modern machines may detract from the pleasure. I am not old enough to remember biking 50 years ago but there are a lot more bikes built in 67 that I would like to ride than have been built in the last few years. But then being a Guzzi owner I am something of a Luddite.

Re: Biking has changed a lot....in 50 years
Oh dear. I passed my bike test 45 years ago (1972) on that hell raising bike....a BSA Bantam 14/4 175cc. Followed by an awful T110 and then a longish list.
I can vaguely remember the mods and rockers times as Hastings was involved.
The second picture is everything that is wrong with biking today.
I'm 63 and added to my '67 Triumph and '14 690 Enduro by buying a '15 Husky 450 today as a more suitable trail riding bike than the 30kg heavier 690.
I am not getting older gracefully and would probably rather give up riding than wear something like that.
They must ride slowly if they need that sad 'Polite' garbage on their backs.
