Proceed with caution.

Post by 2 wheeled tourist »

Speeding on a public road is dangerous, bad and should controlled...here are the new police speed trap colours:

Thanks, we quite often go into their area but of course we don't speed

I do find the proliferation of speed cameras to be distracting now and I'll often find myself taking more notice of a random van parked at the side of the road than the junction (or other danger) I'm about to go past, don't get me wrong, I'm all for safer roads but I'm not sure catching someone doing 70 on a perfectly good bit of A road with perfect visibility etc is actually having the desired effect. Average speed cameras are probably a more effective way of controlling general traffic flow and can't be avoided by local knowledge.

All designed to issue as many tickets as possible to otherwise law abiding citizens. For the same money you could put a proper police car on the road that could deal with so much more than just speeding.

As I've said many times before, you can drive past that van weaving from left to right drunk, with a kilo of heroin on the passenger seat, in a stolen car, with no MOT, Insurance or Tax, with the body of the dead wife you just murdered in the boot, but so long as you aren't committing the heinous crime of SPEEDING, you drive past that police vehicle totally unheeded. Even if you are speeding, you stole the car, so you're still unheeded and will never see the letter in the post.

WASTE OF OUR MONEY!!!!

Put a proper police officer in a proper police car, give him a speed gun, and get him to stop and talk to the people he catches. Exactly the same visual deterrent, better driver education, will catch those with no license, MOT, Insurance, false plates, bald tyres, cracked windscreen, blown bulbs, red handed. But no, he wouldn't be able to write as many tickets as that van can.

It's all about how many tickets.
