In 2015 collarbone fracture, had a plate on it for one year. At removal one of the bolts broke and the surgeon left it in or he had to drill a laaarge hole to get it out. No worries it is only a small point

When I broke my femur in 1972 you were expected to do 6 months in traction before they would begin to consider any form of surgery, metal plates, pins etc. Thankfully things have changed a lot since then and ward time is reduced to a minimum. As a sixteen year old on an adult ward I did however learn a lot and did a lot of growing up in a relatively short period of time, I was lucky I 'only' did 14 weeks on traction, before I was sent hobbling out into the real world with a leg iron and crutches..........

Gawd, you poor bloody sod, what an analogy!! :dry:Allan F wrote:Two replacement hips. First one at 38 & second one at 40. Broken leg, broken wrist. A few months away from reaching 60. Hips are needing an MOT. Looking like I'll need revision. Hope they have new super carbon fibre racing ones available ?
Reckon I'm a bit like a Morris Marina ? Bad design !
Quack told me I would need new knees and hips before 60, but so far am holding on in there (59) until they offer those there racing joints....! (thumbs)

Re: So who has bits of metal screwed in them?
In 2014 I broke both my wrists at the start of a biking trip in Provence, Fountaine de Vercluse to be precise. I had just parked bike and was walking in the town. A young lady biker was trying to start her bike and just as I passed her it started. I, of course, turned my head to see her and tripped over one of those small bollards the French use to stop vehicles parking on the pavement resulting in fractures to both wrists. Obviously it was a biking accident. They were fixed, free, in a private clinic when I was transferred from the local hospital as they didn't have a suitable surgeon. At the Clinic I had a tungsten plate put in each wrist. All done under an EHIC card, I never have Insurance as don't need it, YET but that's another thread.
Oh did learn something else at lunch after operation. When asked what I would like to drink with lunch I replied, "A Ricard please". The reply from the nurse was no alcohol just Red or White wine. It was France
Now to try loading some pics.

Proper sporting injury that fella!!
I had a similar problem with one of those stupid low bollards in France a few years back as I rode (wrongly) into a car park and of course, the handlebars fitted through/over said bollards, the panniers didn't! Down on the floor I went, with the offending pannier holed and bent. My mates killing themselves... B) Not even a bird to blame....

Before and after operation.
And lunch Note Red Wine.
Initial worries about not being able to use left hand on clutch proved unfounded and I was back riding in 2-3 months.

I've got a large plate and about 12 screws in my forearm and a wide scar running from my elbow to my wrist. I fractured my arm in 1991 when I got knocked off my VFR750 in London. Sometimes it hurts but most of the time it's fine. Odd things, like turning a key in a lock, cause it to 'graunch' which makes me whince when that happens

Right shoulder bolted together after parking a Tiger in a hedgerow in what was East Germany before the wall came down. That was 12 years ago and it still grumbles occasionally.

Never broken anything even though I've ridden and hunted horses all my life. Maybe shouldn't have said anything as my biking career isn't long underway ooopsi! :woohoo:
