Sarge i diddent serve in that particular conflict but i joined the Guards in 1980 and went through my training with good friends in the Scots and Welsh Guards some of whom dident come home, others came home badly maimed and others i went on to serve with in future conflicts who iam still in contact with so i think iam qualified to comment. Al stunned me because ive meet the man and his post was not a political view on the conflict but a personal attack on two matelots who where reminscing on lost friends and comrades and nothing more. I thought it was disgusting and nothing less and totally uncalled for. Free speech dosent mean you are free to insult people at a whim. Frankly if he,d tried that on some of my mates from the Scots / Welsh Guards he,d have been swiftly knocked on his arse. The Sarge wrote:I served in the Falklands conflict and I have my reason for asking why Al's opinion was valid or in- valid, what is it that offends you, it doesn't offend me ?Teflon Jnr wrote:The Sarge wrote:Don't know what the fuss is about? I ask the Moderators to comment, why should someone's opinion be deemed offensive enough to ban them?? we're all grown ups for pity sake !!!!
Would you have the same opinion if you had lost a friend or family member in the falklands when someone is being damn right rude and offensive to them

Re: moto al banned again
The thing about offending people, and then moving on is an interesting point.
If you walked into the midst of a Remembrance Day Parade, and spoke offensively about victims off war, or implied that by remembering you were on a soapbox - you'd maybe expect to get a gentlemanly bop on the nose.
If a chap stepped up to your wife, and was offensive, repeatedly to her face - he might also expect a gentlemanly bop on the nose.
The thing is - "offending me" by saying BMW's are shit - or that my team is rubbish - is one thing.
But to offend thing - even by naively implying - is quite ignorant.
So, sometimes, moving on an ignoring is absolutely the thing to do - other times its a bit harder.
As for Al - I ignored his stuff, on the whole.
I will say that - I took a 2 or 3 month term of leave from the site, because it was very over politicised - and I (annoyingly) found myself wasting my own time a lot.
Being on ABR is about a hobby, about bikes - its a useful community a great place for advice etc

Even if you have the full text in front of you, it's nearly always difficult to tell what he said, let alone what he meant.
And if you do manage to work it out, you find that it wasn't worth the effort anyway.

I don't normally comment on this sort of thread but in this case I will say that in my opinion I think the mods have done the right thing.
Some individuals will chip away at an issue with increasing wild views and actions to wind people up and get increasingly extreme reactions. Al looks to be that sort of person. Given time (from what I understand is his past record) he would have broadened is scope on the forum and even taken his attacks to personal messages and even direct texts.
I don't see it as a censorship on the forum, I see it as the mods have "nipped in the bud" one individual who has a somewhat malicious intent on the site rather than a genuine "agree to disagree" opinion.

Who cares...
"The trails of the world be countless, and most of the trails be tried.
You tread on the heels of many, till you come where the ways divide.
And one lies safe in the sunlight, and the other is dreary and wan, Yet you look aslant at the Lone Trail, and the Lone Trail lures you on....
....Bid good-bye to sweetheart, bid goodbye to friend, The Lone Trail, the Lone Trail, follow to the end.
Tarry not, and fear not, chosen of the true;
Lover of the Lone Trail, The Lone Trail waits for you"
