'The Big Trip' - What's yours?

Post by Spike941 »

Do we all have a 'Big Trip' in mind, a goal or a destination, before our sense of adventure starts to wain, be it due to age, health, commitments, finances etc? Like many I'm sure, I dream of the big RTW trip, but reality, well finances, dictate that's pretty unlikely. I know we all have a different view on what our own definition of 'Big' is, as well as what we think is realistically achievable in our own individual circumstances. As much as I admire those who pack in their jobs and sell up, my sense of adventure now falls well short of that. I'm lucky enough to have already ridden to the extremes of Europe, well the north south and west, planning on doing the east this year, and have ridden the west coast and deserts in the USA, so what is currently my realistically achievable big trip? I'll tell you. I'd like to ship my bike over the east coast of the USA and ride to Anchorage, perhaps via the most northerly point of Alaska, and preferably within the next 5 years, or when the Pound recovers some value against the Dollar. What's yours?

I always wanted to ride to Mongolia, but have gone off the idea a bit for various reasons.
Done Europe to death but still love riding in Spain.
I would really like to ride South America/Patagonia - alas work, time, money and family make this a challenge to say the least.

but for my 50th in 2 1/2 yrs time I am looking into west coast USA/Canada up to Prudhoe
this starts with a visit up to ABW in Feb for a chat !

Overland to Ancona Italy, ferry to Split. Through the Balkans to Istanbul. Anti-clockwise around the Black Sea. Back home via Romania, Poland.

No real desination, but I'd like to just pack and go for a few years, riding the roads and trails, eating street food and local beer.

For my 40th I'll be heading somewhere like katmandu I think next year.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Suzuki DR200 Djebel.

Just getting out more on my bike. Instead of just using it for commuting and
'nice weather day trips'
Easier for me to say where I wouldn't want to go, eeerrrrmmmm
