Can someone tell me why Poppy Scotland exists.
It is a charity that is part of the British Legion gtoup of charites so why does it exist and do we need it ?
Is it part of the general slide towards making Scotlands seperation acceptable. It is the only reason I can think of.
When my parents fought in WW2 they were side by side with the Scotts and I did the same when I went to the Falklands and NI etc.
Poppy Scotland..... WTF is that all about ? ----- Answered, apologised and donated.

there are lots of these separate/same organisations - example: RSPCA and the Scottish SPCA
I suspect it is separation by any means possible, but I could be wrong.

We have British Legion Ireland too, have had for years. I very much imagine they separate the areas for administrative reasons, as do most organisations and professional bodies. I doubt that its a new departure. My neighbour who was a WW2 D-Day veteran was very involved in it and it is a great cause.

Legislation regarding charities? Maybe the rules are different in each jurisdiction

Good point.
Legislation and the legal system in Scotland is different and always has been.
When we studied construction law it was the first thing we encountered. There are differences in Northern Ireland too.

Can't help getting a tinge of resentment in this post, especially as it would have been quicker to Google "Poppy Scotland" and look at their information than post politically tainted questions on the forum.Old Git Ray wrote:Can someone tell me why Poppy Scotland exists.

From their website:-
"We were established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund Scotland but adopted our current name and logo in 2006 to reflect our revised fundraising activities and welfare services work. In June 2011 Poppyscotland merged with our sister charity The Royal British Legion (TRBL), which operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to form the largest charity group supporting the Armed Forces community across the whole of the UK. We continue to operate as a distinct charity within the TRBL group of charities, relying entirely on public donations to allow us to continue our life-changing work."
So, there we have it, rather than becoming distant from the rest of the UK, they have in fact grown ever closer over the years.
Ray, I think you owe them an apology and a tenner (which I will match) (thumbs) even though I have already bought my pin badge this year.
