Yes this is the time of year to get the bike serviced (thumbs) Balderstons used to do a free brake service on my GS800 during Jan/Feb, bit nippy riding there across the Fens in February though! -5.5c for 50 miles one time :blink: :laugh:

Having had BMs for well over 20 years (all bought and serviced at Pidcocks) I don't think I have ever paid more than £300 even for the major 24000mile biggies. Always had good service and never felt that I have had my trousers removed! Interested in the original quote as a mate of mine has just bought a 1000XR from Pidcocks and I was going to make his night in the pub tonight re servicing costs!!!

make sure get gets the round in first, same with me at williams manchester never paid more than 300 on any of my bikes

Excellent guys who are fast and professional without costing stealer prices.....they also let use the shop bike for just the petrol costs whilst they work on yours.... (thumbs)

In 2010 bought a BMW K100LT for €1,000. Spend another €380 to get it tip top.
In 2013 bought a K100RT, a K100RS came with it as a spares bike. Cost me all of....€1,000 euros.
Leaving out tyres and routine servicing and consumables the only things done were head bearings on both and water pump on the RT. The RT has added over 50,000 miles since I got it.
Main dealer would make things prohibitively expensive, independents are really worth finding.
Learning your own maintenance for more basic things is well worth it- brake pads etc.
On a newer bike well worth keeping service history up to date. Did that with 2 cars and when things went wrong support was there. With both at 170,000 miles owned from new I felt that main dealer servicing from day one had actually worked out cheaper. But times have changed and it now looks like independents are better unless you find a really good main dealer that is owner run.

The high service prices are a way of keeping you on the new bike/PCP finance treadmill.

My issue with dealers is what they don't do for the money, my GS LC has had 3 dealer services by 2 different BMW dealers and 1 by an independent BMW specialist.
It was noted at the last service that the air filter had never been changed looking at the colour of it, so what else are they skimping on? I wouldn't mind betting the valve check listed as done on the service sheet has also been overlooked?

On the S1000XR servicing charges - I asked Garry, the service manager at Balderstons about service costs before I put my name down for one.
He said they are dearer than the boxers, because of the access to the engine (valves are a doddle on a boxer)
But told me around £200-£250 for a standard service & £400-£450 for the 18K valve check service.
Very similar to my K13R
