Don't agree with that Bren. Of course No Deal sucks big time. Heaps of evidence for that. But the only thing that one portion of the population might think would suck about revoking A50 is the perceived affront to their choice in the 2016 ref. In every other respect remaining in the EU is the sensible and obvious decision, made even more obvious by the present crisis.

Everything screams STOP and abandon this nonsense before the public bill reaches 100 billion (which will be within the current year). Cut the losses now and restore some order. The price of upsetting those among the 17.4 million who haven't either died or changed their minds is well worth paying, in view of the much bigger picture. When you make a bad mistake, just have the guts to admit it, reverse and regroup.
Totally agree.
Likewise. I personally can't believe that default fallback position is not “status quo”.
No deal was even voted against by MPs. Regardless of whether that vote was legally binding or not, surely that is a big sign.

Twice in May's speech she pushed the blame onto Labour after she's sat in a meeting with her cabinet for seven hours and come out with absolutely nothing. How can anyone have that much front! If I was a tory I would hand my card in like Boles did last night. What a train wreck they are.

That's exactly what she's trying to do. Labour need to be careful that they are not seen as accomplices in a Tory brexit. At the moment most informed people would agree that the brexit disaster was initiated, run and owned by the tory party (with some notable help from elsewhere). In May's speech tonight she clearly wants to spread the blame and implicate the Labour party. Dangerous territory for them. If she had reached out 2.5 years ago to convene a national consensus across the parties she would have entered the negotiations with the EU with the UK parliament squarely behind her. Just as Barnier did on his side. Now that she has cocked it up she is looking to dissipate the responsibility.

Just wait and watch if there's a no-deal. You will see Tory rats jumping ship all over the place, desperate to disown their own policy of nearly 3 years.

The way things are going Ms May will have to choose between No Deal exit and revoking article 50. Both suck.

True enough but the fallout will be massive. Loads of people will be affronted, we will have euro elections and fill Brussels with MEPs half of which will be rabid saboteurs. Our international standing will be destroyed (whatever the outcome). The next GE will have regions lost to UKIP or whatever follows from them who will subvert our home affairs too.
Yes, I see your point completely. It's a real worry. But it would be a tragedy if the UK changed its course BECAUSE it was threatened by extreme right wing groups threatening riots and terror events etc. That was how Hitler engineered his rise to power despite poor election results in early 1930s Germany. Intimidation, threats and blackmail.

No matter what actually happens, history will remember that a million people marched peacefully (perhaps even 'boringly') and 6 million signed pro-EU petitions, while UKIP embraced Tommy Robinson, ex-football hooliganism, ignorance, racism and violent reactionism.

The ultimate irony would be the emergence of a Mosely-esque fascist uprising representing exactly what many brexiters themselves proudly evoked and claimed to be against as the high point of british plucky resistance - when they used spitfire/churchill/blitz britain iconography as part of their anti-EU propaganda. Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

Well the day finally came. 5 months after our initial application.

3 solid days of collecting together eleven years of documents, tax declarations, utility bills, business records, health card documentation and inside leg measurements, 3.5kgs of paper copies, a new better quality photocopier!, and then two separate trips into Limoges, digital fingerprinting, photographs, stool samples etc etc etc... We finally, today, have out Cartes De Sejours residency cards.

It was a strangely important moment today to sign the receipts and get them given to us at the Prefecture. After 11 years of living here, we now have two slivers of plastic and microchip that establish our right to live here. A right that we already had.

None of which would have been necessary if the UK had not threatened to leave the EU.

Hopefully the whole thing will be called off and our inconvenience will join the millions of other inconveniences associated with the great brexit mistake.

You might be feeling chipper Dave, but a lot of people who actually live in Britain are very pissed off, the disgraceful goings on in Parliament has show that the political elite have scant regard for those they are purported to serve and though it might have ended with a result that's up your alley, the methods used to get here have been downright criminal, enjoy your victory Dave, it has cost.

But there again, a lot of people who also live in Britain will be very happy if this whole disgraceful thing’s cancelled altogether.
