Have a look on the advice forums such the two below on how to reduce the charge legally

One perfectly legal way to potentially reduce your motorbike insurance costs is to add an older and/or more experienced rider to your policy as a second rider. If, say, your parents or older siblings are fellow bikers, this might be worth considering, with the added benefit that they can borrow your bike from time to time.
However, you shouldn't lie and tell your insurer that someone else is the main rider of your bike - this is called fronting and it's illegal. If you do this you risk having your insurance invalidated and being prosecuted for fraud.
Taking an advanced rider course will enhance your skills and awareness on the road and many insurers recognise this by giving bikers with an advanced rider qualification a discount.
Going to every length to keep your wheels protected will have an impact on the price of motorbike insurance for young riders. So store it in a safe environment such as a garage if possible and fit insurance approved locks. This will make it less likely that the bike will be stolen and hence attract cheaper motorbike insurance quotes.

When I insured my first bike the companies saying they're 'specialists' for young riders weren't even the cheapest so definitely shop around and try playing off the 2 lowest results against each other, anythings worth a try for insurance at that age.

Re: 125 Insurance for 17 year olds..???
My 17 year old son bought a decent Yamaha XT125x back in July. The bike cost £850. He'd been riding a 50cc scooter for about 9 months and I thought he could just transfer the policy and pay an adjustment fee. How foolish of me! That was with Bennetts and they said he had to cancel that policy and get a new one which would be over £1000 TPT!! The best quote we got in the end was with MCE through 'The bike insurer'. Still £700. Carole Nash were over £1000.
Adding him or his bike to my policy wasn't an option. I Can't remember why, but it was too problematic or expensive anyhow.
As usual, we get stitched-up by the insurance companies.
Good Luck,
N.

Re: 125 Insurance for 17 year olds..???
Probably no help but back in the early 80s when I was starting out myself and a few mates ran 100s rather than 125s because the insurance was a lot cheaper. Is this still the case?herman wrote:Consider a 110...a fair bit cheaper.
