Quite a large number of men from the Baltic States went across to fight with the Finns in the Winter War (Finland is still the only country to have beaten the Red Army ) against the Russians, which along with Soviet oppression as occupiers made it almost inevitable that the Baltic States would take up arms with the Germans against the Russians.
