So if you trailer or van a bike to a weekend then you're not a biker? Not many 'bikers' around then :laugh:

I sort of understand both sides of the argument. John, you brought this up last year when i was organising the winter rally, here's the link to what was said then Winter Rally

My view is that if you're bringing an off road bike then it makes sense to tow it on a trailer than ride it there, if you're lucky enough to have a camper van to make your stay more comfortable then so be it but don't be surprised if some people take the mick!

At the end of the day we go to rallies for various reasons but mostly to be with like minded folk, to ride bikes and tell tall tales. However you want to sleep, should be down to the individual.

I rode to the Nec today (in the wind and rain) to visit motorcycle live. I'm telling you I was shocked to see the amount of non bikers that were there. They must of outnumbered the bikers 10/1. Weird you'd think they would go to car shows.

Don't say that, I was going to go by car tomorrow to save 350 miles of motorway miles!

i dont do camping rallys as i hate camping so i dont bother

i do around 6 bunkhouse meetings a year and maby the same in well chosen pubs ,,but i do ride everywhere ..i love ithe ride down ...what doesnt seem to be taken into consideration is trail riding with 30kgms of shite strapped to the bike can limit your options ,,,and as others say the love of biking has no real connection to camping ..you like it or you dont and i will stick pins in me eyes before i endure another night in a stupid crisp packet ..me and me mates arnt interested in camping so we just never bother with rallies and do our own thing ..fair enough no one ever offers a site with both say a pub with camping as well ...never mind



last week in yorkshire bunkhouse the usual piss taking was given out when a few vans arrived ..oh how we laughed when ryan locked his keys and his bike in the van on saturday morning .. well done to gary B) hooked the keys off the seat ..facinating watch ..you couldnt expect ryan to ride a two stroke ktm 150 miles ..could you ??
everyone made their way sunday morning ..i got 200 yards before i was on the floor the roads were lethal .. if id seen the road id have asked ryan to put me bike in the van until i got to the main road at least

personally i dont give a dam who gets where and how ... does it really matter ??

riding on this shit isnt going to make you a better biker its borderline stupid ...somthing to bear in mind on a yule tide meet methinks

If it's camping in a field I'll take the small bike in the van & sleep in van

I enjoy the bike and travel 2 hours each way at times for a meet up.

But, especially in winter the fairing on the k is fantastic and I do it in winter, 400 miles in a day. So are some other bikes but they seem to hit 275-325kg and that's getting too heavy.

However, I have also ridden naked bikes and there isn't a chance in hell I would do 100 miles in cold wet winter on a naked bike, no matter what gear. It has taken me many years to find what I consider the perfect set up for winter riding and even then I know it still would not work with any less of a fairing. I have done these trips on naked bikes years ago and like many the body would not be up to it now.

For any distance in winter that would mean alternative transport, van, whatever. Some of the guys I meet do this, one guy sadly at 75 decided due to bad back that his bike days were over. So he still comes along, in the car and with his wife who we all love. In winter a few of the other guys who would be travelling over 100 miles may get together and will travel in a car and we could write books about that. We encouraged them to do it as otherwise they would be staying home.

Bottom line is none of us would miss the fun for anything and once a biker always a biker.
