Hard one this, but just be glad of the numbers and as long as the event is a success who gives a shit.
I understand your dilemma though but it's the person not the ride
camper vans at bike rally ????
Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
I'm with you john mate, its a bike rally,ok maybe if the only bike you have is an offroad biased and you have a long way to travel, and of course if you're helping to run the rally and have no intetion of riding then a car or van can be usefull say if theres a problem with a bike that needs to be trailered, with the equipment available these days no one has to be uncomfortable under fabric.
Sorry but thats my view.

Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
I like at least some creature comforts like a fairly decent place to lay my head, a cold beer and a table and chair. It's all fine and dandy sleeping in a tent when the weather is alright but some comfort doesn't go amiss for me. The other side is, I don't have the chance to venture out far away very often and when I do driving there in the van (me and my missus) saves us time and we don't get everything soaked even before we get there.
I was in the army for 5 years. I've seen tents from all sides so I avoid them when I can.
(Apart from my rooftent on the van as that's brilliant)

It'll end in tears I tells ya.
Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
Most of the mc rallies i go to, camper vans are allowed for blue badge holders..... but if they let anyone in with a camper or caravan, then loads would bring them and the rally would start looking not like an mc rally but more like the caravan & camping club.

Who cares really, I love tenting but take my crap in the van when I can, along with my big fishing bed, firewood, pillows etc etc.

Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
I understand the rufty tufty biker bit in spirit with the rally but why make it compulsory ?
Some of the Dakar drivers/riders sleep in airconditioned bedrooms in trucks, don't touch a single spanner etc.
Why should we ?

Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
very sad some of your comments..
as to getting old ,,,,, well i am just shy of 65 .
adventure ,,,, want home comforts ?? can understand .
we have something special and i for one don't want it to end up a caravan / camper van event ,there plenty of them if thats what you want .
as to numbers ,, well i would rather have 20 bikers than a big number of van dweller s .
i seem to have plenty coming to the type of event that i run,
so can't be that wrong

Re: camper vans at bike rally ????
Difficult one.Normally I'd say that it's a bike rally and if you don't want to turn up on a bike then go elsewhere but if you're offering it to guys riding off road a lot will want to bring their bikes in vans or on trailers and some will come in camper vans.
You could always say vans are allowed but must be parked on the road (if possible) and see how that idea goes down.

I sleep on an army bed inside & bike is under the awning
Beats crawling about on your hands & knees
Hotels if I'm abroad on the big GSA
Does that make me a lesser bike rider then?
